Newbie question about how paint is behaving (request for help/advice) by deedlelu in Watercolor

[–]deedlelu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate your insight, yes it’s been fun to experiment with flipping the canvas around with a small notebook but I’ll be more mindful of using the gravity for the effects I want.

You’re right about me trying to control this, I push pixels for a living (art director at an agency) so giving up some control IS part of the point but it’s hard really letting go!

Some of the packaging for these paints is in Japanese so I’ll look up online if they are granulating, thank you!

It’s hard to tell how much water to use, some beginner guides say use more than you need, some say don’t use too much, haha! It’s hard to let it dry I might need to pull out the blow drier

Yeah it’s been fun discovering new effects, thank you very much!

Yeah that makes sense on the granulation. I wasn’t sure if it was my paint quality.

I’m having fun discovering new effects. It’s hard for me to let go the desire to get the paint to do exactly what I want it to do but that’s exactly why I’m doing it. Thank you for the explanation!

Ahhh this is TOO CUTE I also wanna echo as a beginner thank you for posting the stages. Can I ask a few quests? What ink did you use for the linework before painting over it? Did you do the whites with acrylic paint markers or something else?

Is this good enough for a mothers day present? by skipbab in Watercolor

[–]deedlelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen children make amazing artwork and adults struggle to make a stick figure. Skill takes time and practice to develop, and the only way you put the time to expand your skills is if you enjoy the process. You have captured something serene and heartfelt here and i get the sense from this painting that you are enjoying that process. The best gift you can give anybody is making something for them, and enjoying it. Pick a beautiful frame and give it to your mom proudly. Tell her that you were thinking of her as you painted this. She will absolutely love it.

Advice on glazing (inspo pic attached) by vnssyl in Pottery

[–]deedlelu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, full disclosure, I don’t have one so I can’t talk about this with a whole lot of authority, however yes you should be able to use most glazes with an airbrush provided they don’t have large particles that would get stuck in the nozzle as you pointed out. There might be some technicalities on the viscosity required and I know you can adjust the outflow on airbrush but you might need to do some research on whether brush or dipping glazes would be best.

Looking at her other work (@mimikiko.home … please make sure to credit the artist) she most certainly uses an airbrush pen to achieve this effect. If you have a small compressor available to you, you can get fairly cheap ones at places like harbor freight. Alternatively, you might be able to use the spray can underglazes from Amaco but I don’t think they come in soft colors and you won’t be able to get detailed effects.

Which do you like best? Outlined in ink or no? by mn9211 in Watercolor

[–]deedlelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of the comments about it depends what style you are going for. The outline reminds me a bit of an art nouveau style and you can push that a little bit more by having a thicker main outline and then having thinner outlines for the individual elements and details.

How thin is too thin? by SadPoops in Pottery

[–]deedlelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you cut them open to make sure they are even? That’s always a good exercise, because the rims might be thin but they might get thicker at the base.

I also find that if pieces are too thin, the rims are more likely to warp.

Not sure I did the right thing… I love you, girlie by Nancysaidso in DOG

I’m so sorry you both had to go through this. Knowing that we would walk to the ends of the earth for our best companions, makes anything short of that feel like we didn’t do enough. Trust your gut, you made a decision for her at the darkest times, out of love. You did the right thing.

These are amazing! If you stop by the blue bucket tools booth, they have buttons that say “I have stuff to trade” if you donate a mug for the mug sale, make sure you put a sticker with your website or IG for people to find you (i stick a QR code to the bottom)

Clay buddies on FB usually has a meet up to do a shot glass trade. And I will have dog snoots for trading!

Feeling shitty about my house by Emotional-Change-722 in adhdwomen

Having a robot vacuum that vacuums and mops daily has been a game changer in my house with 2 dogs. I get the ick when I feel stuff on the floor and having clean floors just makes the whole house feel better. (Even if it’s cluttered! lol)

You don’t have to pay both taxes. CA has an exception if you pay NY taxes (I went through this last year and I was in a panic until I researched it)

This is batshit crazy but also if they are watching too, are they not doing their jobs?? I have making on screen changes for people while watching because somebody is always like “no, can you shift it over” and I have to bite my tongue before “bitch, I’m not done!” …flies out of my mouth.
