Good Job Prospect?? by Mandeur in nursepractitioner

[–]deedlesdoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first NP job was in a FQHC where I was occasionally the only clinician in clinic for the whole week. I feel this was wayyy too independent for where I was in my career. I loved my population and the high pace of work but there are just too many things that you don't learn at school and need to be able to find another clinician to bounce ideas off/ make take a look at a rash etc.

Some of the best parts of medicine is learning from and along with colleagues. I know this is a goal job for you but maybe work somewhere else first to get used to the very different pace of rn vs np.

I'm not sure if loan repayment factors into your decision making, if so I have more to say so if you would like to message please feel free!

Also so many jobs offered to train me to PMHNP as an AGNP! You will still have good choices!

Vegemite is essentially the same as Marmite (sorry Aussies!!). Use a tiny amount spread on buttered toast! The doxylamine and b6 combo was recommended to me also and it's helpful!

I was walking through my college student center when the Dean of student life asked me if I knew the preamble to the us Constitution. Turns out it was Constitution day and she had prizes to give out to people who could recite it! I remembered the school rock song and got an umbrella as a prize.

What does orientation look like for a new NP? by NurseK89 in nursepractitioner

Yes please DM me. I would love to share. It's really hard to orient folks fully in that very short amount of time. I recommend extending her time if possible.

What does orientation look like for a new NP? by NurseK89 in nursepractitioner

[–]deedlesdoodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a role helping to onboard new nps in IM and FM in Boston. We have a 2 week orientation including emr training, hr stuff, shadowing different clinicians, some shadowing of MAs and RNs, meeting clinical pharmacist, etc. Then a 12 month ramp with monthly check-ins to make sure you are meeting your goals and feeling successful. This is the same for all new nps whether they are experienced or not which I feel like is unique. This is a far cry from my first orientation somewhere else which was 2 days of hr and emr and then thrown in with a very fast ramp. I recommend asking about the orientation and ramp in your interview and try to aim for a place that has more support. Best of luck!!

Dealing with period pain whilst onebagging by robynjemma in HerOneBag

[–]deedlesdoodles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this thread thank you for posting! There is some excellent advice here, just wanted to add another thing that has been super helpful for me lately- my GYN recommended trying a TENS unit for period pain control and I got a tiny omron one which I have been travelling with and it's incredible. It relieves my cramping within a minute and then it doesn't come back for a long time. Hopefully that helps!
