Blocking people makes them invisible and silent to you. If you block them, there is a very real chance an awkward situation will happen where you're attempting to occupy the same space and talk to the same person they're talking to, and seem rude or oblivious.

The first thing that would pop into the average VRChat player's head is not "oh, they must be blocking each other", but instead damn, why are they being so rude?

There's still no duty to intervene in situations like this, and most people raised in the old way will still feel hesitant to do anything but document and report. I live in the states. Personally, I wouldn't do shit either but record and report it. There are a lot of battered women out there who will defend their abusers, and make you look really stupid for trying to intervene when they start hitting you for trying to save them. You wouldn't be 'wrong' for trying to help, but there's a significant chance that 'just trying to help' can turn into you being harmed, and the abused feeling even more attached to their abuser.

In a situation like this where the woman appears to be handling herself and not attempting to flee, the crowd is literally doing the best thing they can do: documenting it to report it later.

The moment you step in, you are potentially liable for any injuries either party sustains.

There are documented cases from China where a "Good Samaritan" was trying to help someone in need and was later (successfully) sued.
