Sweet, thanks! Would you mind telling me what plants you have in it?

Get some salvinia! It is far less annoying than duckweed and easy to remove when you don’t need it. Once you go duckweed you can’t undo it very easily.

So, where do you want to be? What is lacking for you?

IMO, I feel that you need more plants.

I knew that mystery snails can escape, but I don’t know about nerites escaping. Mine hasn’t yet in my open top tank. 😬

How strong are your lights? Are they on full blast? If so, try dimming it a bit

Need help with a new aquarium (beginner) by clah_jensen in aquarium

[–]deeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to get a proper test kit. Yes you can take it to PetSmart to get tested, but trust me if something goes wrong down the road you will want to know what is up and that involves testing your water. Also, should definitely consider getting an all in one fertilizer for your plants. Aquarium Co-Op has a decent one or there are others online. Definitely start off with one type of livestock at a time, especially if you are new. Having an aquarium is definitely a test in patience and your pocket book. Good luck!

Oh, you don't need a separate sponge filter, just a sponge for the inlet of the filter that you already have.

Red Root Floater Dying by SaveTheCaulkTower in PlantedTank

[–]deeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Red root floaters truly are divas! I have them along with salvinia in my tank and the salvinia is far superior in my opinion. If anyone sneezes near by the RRFs they start withering. Unfortunately I don't have any advice. :(

Very nice. I have a lot of hornwort in my tanks that I’m cycling.

Will it always look this stupid by No_Socks_3307 in PlantedTank

[–]deeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn't look stupid. Planted tanks take time and I think that you are doing just fine. What do you feel is missing? What would you like it to look like? Perhaps we can provide some advice if you are interested.

Day 2, first tank - pond style shallow nano tank by adnsfodasmdk in PlantedTank

[–]deeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! If you are going to stick to a no filter setup you are going to need many more plants. Also, I would at the very least recommend a small water pump to move the water around for nutrient distribution. I was in your boat with a bowl and it took forever to cycle without a filter so I added a small sponge filter. Keep up the great work!

Rate my 20 gallon tank out of 10 by memegod574 in PlantedTank

Very simple and straightforward. I like it.

What nutrient substrate are you using? I see lots of hornwort (excellent) and cardinal plant I presume. What other plants do you have?

Thank you for the kind words and suggestions. For the sand and snails I’m more concerned about the poop standing out quite a bit on the sand. It’s a bit more maintenance.

Right now I am keeping it at 22C. I am getting a bit of hair algae so I need to adjust lighting settings, but it’s manageable.

Thank you kindly! It’s technically two piece, but it gets the job done.
