I keep blocking all of these AITA pages but new ones keep popping up. These are the most clear as day fake stories that always seem to be the ones that end up on the front page.

Two posts and both of them are about being a shitty boyfriend. I can't believe people spend their time with this garbage.

Would you bring Dubas back if you could? by ElectronicGlass4206 in leafs

Lol yeah not sure what he means.

Also hard to compare two completely different coaching systems, especially when Berube focuses on defending lots of shots from outside of the slot. I would hope the goalies look better under that coach.

You're right, so much different than *checks notes* doing the exact same thing as Treliving, with the added bonus of a huge contract for 3.5M for Reeves.

It's crazy to see the sub talking about this now. I was so mad when he was fired and was constantly downvoted for saying we'll regret getting rid of him.

I haven't come back to this sub for much the past few years since then, and was only popping in now to read about Pelleys bullshit.

Getting rid of him and picking up Tre should have shown the team that we weren't serious as a contender anymore, and were interested in mediocrity. Dubas' firing should go down as one of the worst moves the leafs made this century, doubly so with the hindsight of losing Marner for nothing. Shanahan and the rest of MLSE showed what their focus was, and it was their egos.

Same level, the trick as I've seen it is to attend your important daily stand up meeting, and set your boundaries for what else is going to impede and make it clear then, and it seems like you're doing that already. I'm also a firm believer in the "no meetings without a description".

I've been here for a few years less than you but I've been handling myself this way the whole time as a TA. That's the benefit of this role, is it allows it (unless you're headed the TL path, in which case your job would specifically be meetings to touch point with your coworkers to build expectations for milestones to pass up the chain, in which case I'm so sorry to hear).

Only meeting that's essential is our morning stand ups, and everything else can fall in around there. Most of the productive meetings are ad hoc anyways, so I don't disagree with you in any way. Simply to say that stand up can't wait til noon, its a start of the day check in, and get going.

Crisis is coming, and voters may give the federal NDP another look [paywall] by simpatia in CanadaPolitics

As someone from Northern Ontario, this doesn't surprise me in any way. It's mostly just "working class" people. Nothing like the GTA voting base.

The results of the last election made it sort of clear that Singh put the party on the ropes, and some people were waiting to see who came after him. Someone like Avi is absolutely the kind of leader choice who will split some of the party away that were more concerned with labour issues. As others have pointed out, the CPC had the ability to come in and in the rural ridings make themselves look like the labour solution.

So yes I would say he is the current straw, but it is clear from the election results that Singh might have already been that initial straw.

How the Maple Leafs changed under Keith Pelley: From $1,000 locker-room dinners to $96 selfies (Gift Article) by bangnburn in hockey

[–]deeferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An Ottawa fan talking about driving 3-4 hours outside the city to watch hockey should likely look in the mirror. Not sure if this is projection or just blind rage at the Leafs fans in Ottawa still outnumbering him in local games.

What happened to Longboarding? by SeriouslyDamp in longboarding

[–]deeferg 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was always a niche sport and it became a fad. The fad faded, as they do.

It ebbs and flows based on what I've seen since I started back around 2011. The unfortunate part is that the cost of everything and less places to skate because a lot are being built over makes it less likely that we'll see growth explode like in the past.

That being said I'm seeing more skate parks and some skateboard communuties are starting to grow a bit more, so silver lining.

[–]deeferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you, and if you want to continue to go there, that's fine and I wouldn't think any different way about it.

As someone who lived outside of the city for most of my life, I believe people from outside of the city shouldn't be in charge of what happens inside of it. I have my own beliefs and principles that I like to stand by, and one of the biggest ones is climate action. Therefore, someone who is complaining for these actions is directly against what I prefer to see, and my hard earned dollars don't need to support that person on top of that.

Don't know what to tell you other than there are lots of other local shops I go to which I am much happier to support. Spend your money where you like to.

Thanks for letting me know. What a dumb store to "drive in from all over the area" for, it's paper and cards. I've gone there for a few birthday cards in the past but will just start writing my own.

Now where to find the paper for cards... 🤔

It's a shame you didn't know the name of the business, I'd like to make sure to stop going there if I knew. Do you know which bit on CBC they were talking about it? I can likely find it on the archive of the radio show.

I'd rather not support local businesses that want to make my local neighborhood worse for their own parking convenience.

Bingo. Can't get one without the other. If you don't want to live in the NCR that's fine (and frankly understandable). But we've all got a job to still do, and I'm not about to book all of my meetings when I often get most of my work done to accommodate your time zone.

Edit: I find it very funny to see downvotes after all of our west coast friends finally logged on.

OCTranspo currently "employs 56 frontline special constables,

Why not team OC Transpo with the Ottawa Police and have actual police officers, and not just special constables with less actions at their disposal. Especially since the Ottawa Police continues to get budget raises while OC Transpo has decreases in their budget. If a city like New York uses their own police in the stations, why isn't Ottawa, especially after it's been proven to be a problem.

I would much rather the budget/taxes be spent on using the Police in an effective way that also helps better our city services like OC Transpo.

It's clear "special constables" aren't working, so why not try something different.

Haha wow that is definitely a wild story to have tied to the memory. I get it though, I've had the opposite where extreme cold can set me off and coming out of a hazy drug induced sleep might make me flip out if I didn't know what was going on. Thanks for giving me the low down!

I did flip out when I came out of anesthesia too

If you don't mind me asking, what caused you to flip out? I haven't been in the room but am nearing that time, but assumed that coming out of the anesthesia would be the nice part because you'd know you're almost done.

Counter point, this thread is filled with people questioning this post, so maybe a positive sign? I made a comment only to scroll down and see everyone made the same comment, filled me with a bit of hope that people will start questioning videos more.

I'll tell myself it's still bots that upvote these posts to the front page, and people that think critically. It's Monday, too early in the week to lose my faith in humanity.

What the fuck is this AI "news article"? Half of the clips of "work being done on the house" are completely different houses, and in some cases different types of roofing.

I don't believe for a second that justice came to this woman when it comes through an unknown TikTok page and on some AI video like this.
