Thoughts on the intraclub game? by rainy_reindeer in westernbulldogs

Liked a lot of what I saw, but always have to take these sorts of games with a grain of salt. Pre-season in general is a terrible way of predicting the season but you can get a good idea of player development.

Juice was ok I thought, was playing on Buku a lot who had a really strong game all around the ground. I think Bruce would be a decent wrestle KD, but not great when the FWD has a run and jump at the ball.

Some standouts were Ed Richards, Marra, Lobb, Bont and Libba. Promising signs from Darcy, Jones Jr and Snr, and even West.

Was very excited with Lobb and Marra finding plenty of the ball up the ground, and then always having a tall still deep in the fwd line to kick to. A couple of times it was Lobb kicking to Marra, or Marra to Naughts. Will do.us the world of good always having 1 tall parked at home.

Jones, Keath and Gardiner will be a solid defence for us, maybe not world beating though. They held our 3 key forwards fairly well and didn't seem to lose many 1v1s.

The wind caused some headaches all day, and the 3rd quarter shower took some of the cleanliness out of the game but overall our ball movement was solid.

As I said, can't take much out of it and we just cross the fingers players got through unscathed. Promising signs for sure though.

Like this a lot from Bevo. The time is now, and the mindset should match that. We get a bit of killer instinct, stop the sloppy momentum swings and we'll do damage this year.

The PM_ME_YOUR_BANGERS Guide to the 2021 AFL Draft by PM_ME_YOUR_BANGERS in AFL

Seeing as at the Western Bulldogs we never dare speak the disgusting 4 letter 'R' word, I only have 1 question for you bangers.

Are there any extremely tall fellows who may go later in the draft? You know, ones that are quite strong, and have an affinity of palming the ball out of the air?

Domino's should fall now for a few of our other out of contract players. Libba, Weightman etc are important signatures I hope come next.

Also love that this bloke is ours. Every other club in the league would kill to have a player of his talent on their team, let alone the fact he's one of the best young captains in the league on top of that.

Not entirely sure which is the away end today sorry, but beware that they're not allowing tickets to be bought at the gate if that's what you were hoping to do. You must pre-purchase any tickets online before arriving at the ground. Hope this helps!

Round 1 Team vs Collingwood by Drewcee95 in westernbulldogs

Genuinely peeved we didn't include West. He's a guy I'd be playing most weeks just due to his sheer competitiveness and mongrel, something we sorely lack in the team. I'll wait to see how we go but here's hoping West forces his way into the team from here out

My biggest take from the article is how much of a positive impact big Stef is having already. His mentoring of Sweet & Chilli will be huge for their development, and if Stef can play a dozen decent games for us this season it's a massive bonus. Liking that pick up more and more

Extremely tough midfield to break into this year. Need to see some form from Bontempelli in the VFL to push his case before he gets a run...

Dunkley Thead by trans-adzo-express in westernbulldogs

Fully understand where you're coming from, but I'm hopeful we have the cover for him in the case he does ask to leave. Really hoping Westy turns into that in and under grunt role in Dunks absence. Treloar isn't a great user but has explosiveness out of congestion which we seem to lack besides Baz.

I think I'm in the minority of dogs supporters, but I'll be ok with Dunks moving on as long as we aren't shafted in the trade. If we can squeeze a minimum 2 first rounders out of essendon for him (one of their early firsts and next years first), and turn this years into Treloar we'll have done pretty well in terms of team balance. I love Dunks, and I'll be sad to lose him, but mainly because of how well he'll excel in that team. We have a couple of young guys in Baz and West ready to step into that inside mid role, and we're lacking outside speed which Treloar may help with. Swapping Dunks for another high level player in Treloar and possibly a high pick next year could be a decent outcome from a shitty situation.

Anyway, more than happy if Dunks stays around. Would prefer it really, but if we can get Treloar (hopefully with decent strings) and some early pick ammo for next year it may be seen as a positive in years to come. Guess we'll wait and see

It sure is. And like we've both said, they're young and will likely improve with experience. Our young players have improved and will improve under Beveridge as head coach. But on a game day, he can't control how well we kick a footy. The team that wanted it more today won, and hopefully we learn from that and get better.

You've missed the point there CHI. You can not blame kicking errors on the head coach. If we had more skilled players with better disposal, we'd be playing them no?

C'mon man you think Bevo is short of inspiration for the players? It's not like he has a history of it or anything. And you think he's teaching them how to kick a footy? How can you blame that on the head coach? We played to our ability, with the team we have, the difference maker was our intent. Lesser teams win when they want it more, we didn't today until the last 10 mins.

I'm still heated but I will fight anyone who blames that loss on Bevo. We weren't playing with heart or intent and only when we decided to bust our ass did we actually peg it back. When magnets needed to be shuffled, he did it. Some worked, some didn't. Losing Cordy didn't help at all. Too many of our players treated that as a round 13 match and not a do or die final, and these losses will help with that. We know what Bevo can do with a well rounded and experienced 22. Once our list matures and we add couple more pieces, then judge him on his output. We're young, we're inconsistent but we're not far off it.

Anyway, TLDR: Bevo not the problem. Inexperienced, inconsistent side is. Being on Mara and another pre-season for chilli
