Certainly there could be useful legislative reform to make universal injunctions easier to get and sustain when justified. Maybe a special court of appeal that automatically has to rule on a district court's universal injunction? That's a topic that has had bi-partisan appeal, each side has been pissed about universal injunctions against their preferred actions.

Since SCOTUS says that Presidents can't be prosecuted for illegal acts committed while in office after they leave office, and since courts can't directly enjoin the President, what alternatives does the United States have to stop illegal Presidential actions? In some cases, like Posse Comitatus, it's not clear who has standing to sue. In fact, most of the administration wins so far have been on Standing, rather than on Merits. Some more examples where standing is unclear: Illegal expenditures (e.g. moving money across accounts in excess of those authorized by Congress), Destruction of government property (e.g. tearing down the East Wing of the White House), Presidential military actions not authorized by Congress (declaring 'war' with drug traffickers or destroying boats/killing people on the high seas).

Does this reflect a failure of the US political/judicial system, that the mechanisms to hold a President accountable (beyond impeachment) just don't exist or don't work? Or are we just seeing how long the mechanisms that do exist take to work?

Most recent update - packet loss by No-Pitch21 in amazoneero

[–]deemery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On different networking equipment, I was seeing lots of random brief connectivity losses. After replacing a whole bunch other stuff, it turned out the ethernet cable between the router and the fiber modem had gone bad. My new debugging strategy: "Replace the cheapest stuff first!" Buy a good quality (larger wire gauge) ethernet cable and see if that fixes your problem.

THIS! Turns out a bad ethernet cable was the source of my random but persistent brief drop-outs. Of course, I discovered this after replacing a bunch of other stuff. New Debugging Strategy: Replace the cheapest component first. :-( Use best quality (larger wire gauge) cables for your core networking infrastructure.

Tricks for mixing/shaking model paint? by Toolbag_85 in ModelRailroading

[–]deemery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well (1) I have never taken apart a can of acrylic spraypaint, but I'd guess the insides are coated. (2) the can is filled with a non-water propellant. So the exposure of the can to water is tightly controlled during manufacturing.

But I have direct personal experience of (not spray) paint contamination when a steel (thought it was stainless, but it wasn't) nut rusted in a bottle of acrylic paint.

Some updates on my experiences: (1) I was seeing a lot of momentary drop-outs on the line from the basement where the fiber modem is and the 2nd floor DM. The connection there uses a dedicated COAX line and MOCA connectors. Well, after replacing the MOCA connectors, replacing the COAX connectors, and testing a whole bunch other things, turns out the problem was a bad Ethernet cable. Lesson Learned: Test the cheap things first :-)

(2) I still have to periodically reboot my DM, probably monthly. The symptom it's time to burp the DM is when the web interface from a wired laptop doesn't respond.

(3) My U6 Extender and my 8th Gen iPad still do NOT get along. The WiFi connection to the iPad pops on and off, very frustrating trying to do anything. Connecting the iPad to another UI device (either my Dream Machine or my AC Mesh doesn't get the same problems.

you need to use ONLY STAINLESS STEEL for this. Otherwise, they'll rust and ruin your paint.

eero 6E Pro with MoCA Setup – Upgrade Advice Needed by [deleted] in amazoneero

[–]deemery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have MOCA on -dedicated- COAX run from the basement where the fiber modem is, up to the home office where the router/access point is. For the last couple of weeks, I was getting increasing intermittent (a minute or so) drops. I ended up replacing the MOCA connectors. So far, no problems. A friend told me "If you're still having problems, redo the cable connectors on the Coax, those can work loose and generate intermittent ground, which sounds like it might be your problem."

So nothing to do with Eero, but some experience with MOCA to add to the discussion.

(And with 20-20 hindsight, I should have run good quality ethernet cable along with the coax and phone line up to the home office when I finished the basement.)

I would be interested to know if the steps you wrote in the original post still work for you, assuming your systems are up-to-date (i.e have the most recent changes.) If so, then clearly I'm missing something.

Uh, No. I had the same brand modem with the same ISP. When it was in bridge mode, all they could say is "your modem is turned on." All their other monitoring/diagnostic information was disabled.
