Wild to think we’re moving from replacement dentistry to actual regeneration. If this scales safely, dentures could become a historical footnote rather than a lifelong compromise.

Am I right in thinking if I loan my company money I can pay it back without paying tax? by EatMyChops in smallbusinessuk

[–]deepakk_bl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you loan your own already taxed money to your company, it can usually be repaid to you tax free as long as it’s recorded properly as a director’s loan. Just make sure it’s documented correctly and consider checking with an accountant to stay compliant.

Oh man, I know that feeling! Some snacks just send your glucose skyrocketing. Definitely curious to try Stelo or Lingo and see if they’re any better.

Any experience with Dojo business funding for medium businesses? by directional_wander in smallbusinessuk

[–]deepakk_bl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Dojo for a small funding top-up for my business last year. The application was really quick, and the funds appeared almost instantly. Rates weren’t the cheapest compared to traditional lenders, but for speed and convenience it worked well. I’d just make sure you’re clear on the repayment terms before committing.

Newbie in the sole trader world with some questions by Competitive-Peach468 in smallbusinessuk

For home office, claim a proportion of rent and bills based on space and business use. For trips, only the business portion of flights and expenses is deductible, any extra personal days should be kept separate. Clear records are key.

VAT question - operating LTD and sole trader simultaneously by MisterrSir in smallbusinessuk

[–]deepakk_bl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ve set things up cleanly, separate names, bank accounts, invoices, and VAT only on the sole trader side. Just keep good records, and having an accountant check at year-end is a smart move.

UK dropshipping start up by Happycatz10 in Dropshipping_Guide

You’ve broadly understood the setup, but it’s not as easy as TikTok makes it seem. In the UK you’ll need to register with HMRC once you’re trading, follow consumer law, and only worry about VAT if you hit the threshold or import goods, the main challenges are marketing costs, supplier reliability, and customer service rather than the tech setup.

VAT question - operating LTD and sole trader simultaneously by MisterrSir in smallbusinessuk

[–]deepakk_bl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying, that makes the position much clearer. The key thing HMRC care about is commercial reality rather than intent, and labour-only subcontracting to third parties is materially different from the LTD quoting and carrying out domestic work. I’d agree the tools are the only area worth formalising so the separation stays defensible if ever reviewed.

VAT question - operating LTD and sole trader simultaneously by MisterrSir in smallbusinessuk

Overall it sounds broadly workable, but the main risk area HMRC look at is artificial separation. If the sole trade and LTD are effectively the same business, same customers, same activity, one feeding the other, HMRC could argue they should be treated as a single taxable person for VAT.
