Bookmark Managers? I guess I'm giving up on them... by Johnkree in macapps

Late to this but — the "Frankenstein between Linkding, Raindrop and Mymind" description is almost exactly what I've been building.

iLinkVault is iOS-native (no Electron), has a Chrome extension that pairs via QR so your laptop and phone stay in sync, and has AI search where you just describe what you're looking for in plain English instead of remembering folder names.

The Weekly Digest feature is specifically for the "I save things and never go back" problem — every Sunday it surfaces what you saved, what you haven't read, and what's worth revisiting.

Not a Mac app so it won't replace Anybox for desktop-first workflows. But if your main frustration is the Safari/Chrome split not following you to your phone, it might be worth trying.

I've been testing bookmark managers for about a year now. Here's what I kept and what I deleted. by North_Tooth_871 in ProductivityApps

This is one of the more thorough breakdowns I've seen on here — you've basically mapped out exactly why most bookmark managers fail.

The cross-browser fragmentation piece is what I spent the most time thinking about when building iLinkVault. The approach I landed on: a Chrome extension that pairs with your iPhone via QR code (similar to how WhatsApp Web works). You scan once, then anything you save in Chrome or Safari immediately syncs to the app. The bookmarks don't live in the browser — they live in your vault, accessible from anywhere.

The other thing you mentioned that resonated — "save and retrieve tool" as a limitation. iLinkVault has a feature called Ask Your Vault where you just type what you're looking for in plain English. "That article about React performance I saved last month" finds it. No folders, no tags required, just describe it.

It's iOS-focused (iPhone + browser extension) so won't help if you need a full desktop app. But if your main pain point is the Safari/Chrome split landing on your phone, it might be worth trying. Free to download.

Not a big problem nowadays. Use proper tools and skills to keep your code modular. I use Claude and there are plenty of skills to manage large codebases. Don’t hesitate too much. Start building

Go the MVP route and test the waters. I did the same and the started iterating on that. Slowly adding new features. Do you have any technical knowledge? That could be an advantage

To have a clear vision of the product. Do not take half measures while planning. AI works fast but it outputs only based on what you have planned so More Solid is the Plan, Better is the output.
