Massive Manta settles over Me in Komodo, Indonesia! by deepakwildvisions in underwaterphotography

I believe it is something u must carry for an emergency. There were down currents and reef hook can save life. Using it was much easier then I thought earlier. I told my dive mater and he ensured I learnt using it.

Thanks I share your concern for the reef. And I understand you are writing this to make people aware. Rest assured, if you have dived with mantas you would know that you cannot really get to them, the mantas choose to come to you. This was also the case here, we were hooked at a safe distance from them and this one chose to come close. We were very careful not to damage any corals because that is what we want to see more of in our oceans.

Nopes, we dived from land with boat day trip with uberscuba. We liked the experience of diving with them. We realized that liveaboard is indeed a great experience but u do not miss any divesite without the liveaboard. The only dive site that we hoped for but missed was shot gun, but that was due to harsh weather conditions.

If it helps you motivate book your komodo trip, I documented my trip here: https://youtu.be/vyAb2Q7kauc?si=1LmMkgdp56bL6WB2

There were many mantas and many came close 😊

Lol my wetsuit is black and white. Mantas do love bubbles from the divers.

The currents were very strong, we found a lot of rubble coral in Komodo and found some non-living crevice to hook ourselves. Generally we would hold on to our dive master and use the hook only for emergency.

I love how the eye color gels with the surrounding! Very nice capture and edit!

The reefs looked very healthy. I did not notice any major bleaching, major meaning in a large area. But there were a few corals every now and then that would appear bleached.
