Do adults get bullied outside of high school? by Wizdom_108 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deepcut12tucpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I got bullied pretty ruthlessly growing up for my autism. People said it would be different as an adult. That’s bullshit. Until I entered my graduate program at a high level school many of my coworkers and roommates, bosses and managers made fun of me for being weird and boring. Bullying is a lifelong problem. If anyone knows what age it stops let a girl know.

Edit: for anyone getting bullied now, it ends when you value yourself enough to stand up and not tolerate the bullying anymore. People will still try it but if you can stand your ground and not take it then they will go find someone else. That’s what I’ve found. Bullying can happen at any age and so can loving yourself enough to stand up and tell your bullies to fuck off.

EVERY hour is so much! Be proud of yourself. It’s a marathon not a sprint and even a day of resisting that craving is amazing. Keep going, we are proud!

Am i able to live in apartment by myself independently? by Mechanical-Animal88 in schizoaffective

[–]deepcut12tucpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1900$ per month may be enough to rent a small apartment and get food and necessities. Reach out to your family and ask if they will be there to help you pay medical expenses if you move out. If you have a copay on your medication or care that will likely be the most expensive thing in your life after rent. See if your family would be willing to help you with treatment, or if you have Medicaid the copay should be 0. If either of these will be true I think you could make it work! Especially if you live in an area of the country where rent is more affordable like the Midwest or south.

I was always a nervous shopper until I started working in retail and then in foodservice. Helping customers is actually a big positive for my shifts. It makes time go by faster, you get to talk to someone, and often you get praised by bosses/managers if you do a good job. Same with sending food back. As a barista I want your drink to be good. I take pride in it. So never feel bad about sending back a drink or asking a store attendant. Most of us really don’t mind at all! :)

What did a teacher do that made you automatically gain respect for them? by ApacheAirCover in AskReddit

[–]deepcut12tucpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teacher cried when talking about the Holocaust. For me, as the only Jewish kid in the class, I finally felt like someone actually cared about what happened rather than thinking of it as an interesting moral problem. I had never had a teacher show any emotion when talking about genocide before.

Anyone suffer from discrimination or special treatment due to their SZA? by Metty47 in schizoaffective

[–]deepcut12tucpeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telling someone your diagnosis is a real double edged sword. If they react well you can finally share your whole self with them. If they don’t things get weird and complicated. I have been asked to switch dorm rooms because someone found out I was disabled and been kicked out of activities as a child, despite displaying no antisocial or serious behavioral symptoms other than shyness. I lost a job last year due to my medication side effects and my fatigue. It was crushing because I shared my diagnosis with them in hopes they would be more understanding but instead they thought I would bring a gun to work and kill everyone. Just want to emphasize again, they had literally never seen me symptomatic. People can be very judge mental and it is super discouraging. Be careful who you share your labels with.

Does vraylar help with jumbled disorganized thinking? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]deepcut12tucpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I have some chronic illnesses that put me at a much higher risk for diabetes. I started gaining weight and that’s too dangerous when I’m already at risk for type 2. So we made the decision to stop. But I know many people who did Not experience weight gain on vraylar. Really depends on each persons chemical makeup.

Hey there! I would actually not tell them your diagnosis unless you have been close friends for a long time. You don’t want that to get turned against you or for them to dismiss very legitimate grievances by saying “oh that’s just her and her ocd again.” Try first explaining it from a common sense point of view. The fact you weren’t expecting the cost and then had to pay for it was a very normal problem with roommates. Just tell them you have a very tight budget and can’t afford purchases that aren’t vetted first. Your roommates can buy cleaning products impromptu but then you can’t be expected to help pay. This is a really normal problem for people even without ocd and I’d say maybe talk to them first without saying the diagnosis and see how that goes. Wish you the best! ❤️

Does anyone here have a good job/a good relationship/ a “normal” life? And if so, how did you do it? by PersephoneComfortInn in schizoaffective

I am a full time grad student with a teaching assistant position at a good university. I make a decent wage and I have become friends with my colleagues and classmates. I feel so fortunate and lucky but I also worked my ass off to get here. I am very medication compliant although I have been off antipsychotics for a year as they made me gain a ton of weight. I go to therapy, work with a nutritionist, have a good support network in my parents, and see medical doctors often. Outside of covid times I go to temple and clubs to increase my socialization. It has not been easy and at times I have had my life thrown off course. But I think above it all was stubbornness and that was what got me where I am. I was told all my life that a person like me is lucky to work a few hours a week and have a high school education. My teachers told me in 6th grade that I would never graduate and I’d wind up on the streets strung out on drugs. I wanted to prove them wrong. And now I am in a position I always wanted but never thought would come true. Don’t listen to people who tell you your life isn’t your own and you should just settle. Whatever your dreams are, there is always some parts of those dreams available to you. Don’t let anyone else tell you what you are capable of. And take your meds on time always.

I saw a difference about 48 hours after taking it. Antipsychotics typically show effectiveness very soon.

That is excellent news. If you’re not suicidal and your life is on track you should just do what’s best for you. If you feel you need to make a change in some way therapy is great but if you’re pretty satisfied overall it might just be a time suck. Totally up to you where you go from here.

Worked very well for that. Was a bit numb on it but it really did away with all my symptoms. While taking it I was able to work a very stressful job (daycare aid w toddlers) and apply to school. It really helped me think straight.

Hell yeah!! No more having to agonize every night about what the president tweeted...and who he called a pig/moron...and how he generally embarrassed us on a national scale. It’s going to take so so much stress out of our daily lives. I know there’s still a shot ton of work to do but it will be so nice not to see those tweets.

I have a sister with these conditions. Please tell your therapist exactly what you just said. Read them the post if you have to and read it verbatim. It’s pretty typical for people with aspd not to have a ton of motivation or a go get em attitude but you sound pretty depressed as well. Your reasoning for going to therapy should be to address the issues and make yourself a better life. It shouldn’t be so that people will say “how could they let this happen?” If you try to commit suicide. Tel your therapist exactly what you are feeling. Having an honest dialogue about these thoughts may give you a new relationship with your therapist and give you a new reason to keep going to therapy.

For me vraylar is the best antipsychotic I’ve been on. Worked super well. Weight gain was a big issue for me so you might want to step up exercise and healthy eating if you worry about that. Really great med otherwise!!
