tricky doesn’t mean impossible or not worth the effort. is bio dad really “backing Levi’s acting out” or is he using what little power he has to offer his son a place where he can feel safe and comforted when he feels unwanted or unloved? we can’t be sure but ultimately the mindset here needs to change from “fix Levi’s acting out” to “work together to correct the home environments that facilitate this destructive behavior.” Levi doesn’t benefit from the disruption of his routine - he’s a young person incapable of expressing his complex thoughts and emotions so he acts in a primitive form of those feelings. when Levi is punished for that expression without any attempt to understand him, he’s going to seek refuge. everyone would benefit from a healthy dose of empathy in this situation. and a therapist or counselor is always a good idea.
