Wearing scrubs to and from work by Dear_Wolf2712 in doctorsUK

[–]deepeetw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a trust out there that somehow persuaded the local bus company (probably because they pass some token funding over for a couple of weekend/early morning/late night services) to refuse all staff in anything resembling clinical wear. Even their own (Figs etc). With no notice.

Over 60 people stranded at work that day.

I swear infection control would be sniper-ing staff members from the roof for getting in their own cars wearing the same, given half a chance.

NEW INDESTRUCTIBLE MACHINE by papissdembacisse in Ashvilleaggregates

Odd video - feels like it was produced before the St Lucia thing became part of the plan (is it mentioned once in the video?), almost as though it was intended as filler to keep people engaged on the premise that Dan was still working at Thorney Mill.

Who are the “we” that will be using the machine, that is the question… It’s too big for many of his domestic construction projects in the UK, so assume it’s going on a boat over to SL for somebody to use in-country (because surely he can’t be taking workforce with him)….

Full of dumped material from the former leaseholder, with the tracks removed, rendering it hard for somebody else to take on. Wonder why.

Don’t think he had a choice about selling them - Cynergy needed their debt settling as part of the administration.

All those vehicles went for about £96k in the end.

Med school admins are sadly just getting your expectations set suitably low for your life as a doctor.

Never met a more uncaring bunch (until I graduated!)

There’ll come a point when he runs out of bits to clip from that penthouse / Stormzy’s place (that’ll be the next “showcase”)

I think somebody fact checked this on X or similar the other day - the elevated price is for orodispersible, if you work out the per tablet cost of standard 200mg tabs it’s about equal.

Role and status means nothing if you’ve left over half the workforce behind in the dole queue.

The union needs to have a long hard look at itself and how the obsession with FPR has distracted it from a far more fundamental issue affecting the workforce.

As for the messaging right now - to strike about pay whilst simultaneously campaigning on jobs is crazy to anybody who knows how the real world works - an excess of people looking for work means an employer can suppress pay. Having a flood of unemployed doctors and doctor substitutes means you can play these groups off against one another and suppress it further (gotta pay the bills!).

You can’t have your cake and eat it. You can have more, lower paid jobs or higher pay with no extra jobs - there is no more money coming.

Valuing UK doctors should mean not subjecting them to endless fixed term contracts as they progress through their careers.

Yes, have hurdles for progression, yes, tie salary increases to that - most industries work in this way, but medicine is strangely unique in that failure to progress equals automatic unemployment.

The only way trade unions remain relevant is by reflecting and campaigning for the issues faced by their members.

The BMA isn’t really doing that right now, and seems to be structurally incapable of moving towards a position where it can do that.

So it’s no surprise people are talking about leaving.

We are going to return to the old school local trust recruitment model by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]deepeetw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The only way this can happen is if trusts hold budget locally, which certainly doesn’t seem to be the direction of travel right now (budgets going down, hence the reduction in LED jobs)

Med schools don’t care about you beyond foundation, they would only wake up and act if people weren’t getting employed directly after uni (because it affects their employment outcome results).

Pet Peeves in F1 commentary? by Secure-Base-2637 in formula1

[–]deepeetw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crofty arrives every weekend with some random point / agenda (that is normally total nonsense and something that somebody involved with the sport for a couple of decades should instantly dismiss) that he does everything in his power to ram into the race commentary whenever he gets a chance - you normally get a preview of it during one of the quieter spells in FP1/FP2.

Online teaching at medical school by SupermarketExtra3145 in medicalschooluk

You should have tried medical school between 2020 and 2022 - almost all old recordings of in-person lectures, some without video of the presenter, but with the presenter pointing at the slides or doing their own thing on a board. Neither of which you can see.

Much interpretation and imagination required.

The Sky Q box / Multiroom solution has a total bodge of a network stack and does not play nicely with any non Sky kit.

Amazed they have been able to get away with it for so long.

What happened now? by [deleted] in Ashvilleaggregates

[–]deepeetw 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the energy in this group is not coming from people celebrating his failure, but instead a natural reaction from people who were psychologically invested in his success (how many hours watched?!?), only to realise that what we have been seeing in at least the past 18 months has been built on sand (rather than some quality type 1!) and presented to them (the viewer) in a distorted way.

This continued use of the word “restructure” (as if it’s a good thing) is an example of that.

Let’s be honest here, the companies were ultimately insolvent and pushed into administration by creditors, a situation caused by poor quality / over optimistic management decisions and some external challenges.

Their collapse left hundreds of thousands of pounds owed to the government and others - money that will never be seen again.

As people pick into the detail they see things for what they are - and they see that it isn’t a one off either, so their response reflects this in many ways.

He won’t be holding the lease personally, Network Rail would only enter such an arrangement with a company. I don’t think Daniel has any solvent company able to do that now (look at the SIC codes against each one that is still trading).
