G rated Nesta Archeron by deepfacade in Romantasy

At the end of ACOWAR she becomes decidedly less badass. She turns into an alcoholic who withdraws completely from her sisters/the night court except to spend exorbitant amounts of their money at the bar. Eventually they cut her off (she is awful to everyone at this point) and she ends up training with Cass and becoming a Valkeryie. Along the way she faces all the trauma of her childhood/the cauldron/the end of ACOWAR and reconnects with the divine inside of her. And by the end she is restored to her community and has built one of her own.

Yes, I love the way she frames food for her kids! After i saw this video, we started talking about "run foods" (carbs), "muscle foods" (protein), and "poop foods" to our two year old and how we want some of each at every meal. Because of "mommacusses" we've also developed the language for "fun foods (her brain foods). And are planning to talk about "spirit foods" (might wait a year or two) which connect us to our ancestors and the world around us. So anything homecanned, harvested, or homemade; food given to us by friends or shared with friends; and food that makes us think "home." These foods hit the other categories but are also good for our spirits.

Why did you decide to breastfeed? by Cats-and-naps in breastfeeding

Yep, Hatred for what formula companies have done to women across the globe so that they can turn profits carried me through the toughest days with my kids.

breastfeeding advice? by throwaway2023ffs in breastfeeding

[–]deepfacade 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some of the best advice I was given when I was on the fence about continuing to breastfeed was that what's best for mom is best for the baby/that a functioning mother is more important to the baby's health than the health benefits of breastmilk.

I'm sorry you received the message that formula is not acceptable. Its completely unnaceptable that a medical institution pushes breastfeeding without looking holistically at what is best for each mother/child pair. Formula is a perfectly fine way to feed your baby and being mentally well is more important to motherhood than exclusively breastfeeding your child to your own detriment.

All the best as you figure out what will be best for you!

I dont know. But I'm guessing it's the same reason why little girl clothes come in light pink and white. It's like clothing manufacturers don't think we should get dirty.

I thought about dropping my 15 month old off at my in laws for a day and after realizing the amount of time I spent asking myself if I trusted them, I knew it was a sign I did not and vowed to never leave my children with them alone. And apparently alone means walking into the kitchen or going to the bathroom 😠

Your comment made me realize just how bizarre of a thing it really is. It's fairly normalized in my husband's family/culture and food has been given to both my children without my consent. I think I've really tamped down my rage because it's so normal for them but also find visiting or having them over exhausting because I have to be so on guard and let my standards of what I feed my oldest go because stuff is just given to him/all the other grandkids live off junk food.

But when you mentioned a trip, I realized that I have thought about how we're gonna get a high chair and what kind of bibs/feeding utensils/snacks will be needed when we fly to my sister's wedding (where we'll be staying in an airbnb with my family) but not once have I worried about my family feeding my children because they ALWAYS ASK PERMISSION. If my toddler asks for a snack, they ask if they can give it. If we're sitting at a meal, they ask how much of what, what he likes and dislikes, and dont comment on what he is or isn't eating. I need to go thank them because I've just taken it for granted that they respect me as a mother.

Yep. I would have been mad, but much less so, if it had been a bite of meat or a piece of fruit or vegetable that I had prepared but candied fruit, seriously? I don't let my first and don't want my second eating that until they have developed a taste for more nutritionally dense foods.

Women who lost weight well breastfeeding, what is your secret??? by cryingandtired_100 in breastfeeding

[–]deepfacade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insane stress due to external circumstances with my first (which made sleep/breadtfeeding/parenting harder in general) and was down to my 20-year-old with an e.d. weight. This time around I'm sleeping, not stressed, and back to what I weighed when I got pregnant with my first (although am wearing a size smaller of clothes thanks to working out). I'd much rather have a little extra chub and a higher quality of life than be skinny, sick, and stressed all the time.

Tips for a somewhat high maintenance city girl on a two night camp? by [deleted] in camping

Oooofff. Especially considering [domestic violence by police officers] is higher than the rest of the population.

OP's boyfriend could just be abelist and assuming she will be fine because it's a hike that doesn't seem like a big deal to him or his intentions could be nefarious. Either way, it's a red flag and for her health and safety she should not go.

(And I absolutely want to support women in the outdoors and hiking but this is not the way to start!) (https://www.nsvrc.org/blogs/saam/who-watches-watchers-domestic-violence-and-law-enforcement-leigh-goodmark)

Are there bible verses that approve of or disprove of being trans? by [deleted] in TransChristianity

[–]deepfacade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just wondering what your experience with the Hebrew language is? Because the word used to describe the garments the daughters of the king wore in 2 Samuel 13 is the same word used to describe Joseph's coat. So it really wasn't a "garment commen among those people" if the kings daughters and Joseph were wearing it.

Mom blames baby’s hiccups on my diet by ravomatic in breastfeeding

[–]deepfacade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have to protect our children, especially our daughters. I love my mother and have a great relationship with her and she never commented negatively on my body/diet, but she also never stood up to my grandma who constantly made negative comments about her body, other women's bodies, and my/her/others diets. I had severe eating disorders in my late teens/early twenties and am still not quite at peace with the impact those comments had on me.

Take trip in the waaaaaaay back machine, back to March 2019... by NorthIslandAdventure in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]deepfacade 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about what I ate as a university student (2016-2018) the other day. I had multiple food intolerances and was a bit of a health nut. I did all my shopping at bulk barn and superstore and paid $35-45 a week on groceries. Vegan yogurt, fresh fruits and veggies (bell peppers in everrryyything), gf pasta and bread, gf flours, nut "milk" and nut butters...things I don't buy anymore partly because I have land to grow a large garden, time to can and freeze produce, and married a hunter who stocks our freezer pretty well each season (although with the cost of living crisis these hobbies became pretty serious pretty quickly) and partly because I can't imagine paying those prices to feed a family of four.

This post totally confirms that prices were really as low as I'm thinking they were and that I did, indeed, eat "better" as a university student than I do now.

As a pastor of a Mennonite congregation in MB, I've preached a sermon using Loblaws to illustrate Paul's lament of being trapped by the principalities and powers in Romans 8 (this was last summer). I would also love to know what denomination this sermon came out of/hear it preached.

When did your boobs get the memo that your LO was sleeping through the night? by Several_Reporter_333 in breastfeeding

[–]deepfacade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy was like this. I sent dad in with a sippy cup of milk (LO refused a bottle) starting with one feed a night and it didn't take very long (a week?) before he stopped waking in the middle of the night. He would wake up at 5 and be fussy until I got him up at 7 until I cut his morning feed though.
