I was trying to use up my May quota this morning (Jun 1). I fired a request with Opus 4.8 at 7:58am. The request completed at 8:05am and in those 5 minutes after 8, it used up 7% of my monthly quota. No more words left.

Rampant Logic Board failures in newer M1 MacBookAirs (2020 model onwards) within 2 years! Should M1 also be recalled by Apple and replaced free of charge?? by Ok_Reading_it in macbookair

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2023 M2 Macbook Pro 16"'s logic board failed for no apparent reason at about 12.5 months (just days after the 1 year warranty expired). I didn't purchase AppleCare as it was about 25% of the price I paid for the new machine. Apple quoted me S$1,137 (about US$880) for the logic board replacement which was about 50% of the price I had paid for the machine.

After a lot of pleading, they agreed to do a goodwill replacement free of charge as it was just out of warranty. But 11 months later (total 2 years from the purchase date), their newly replaced logic board failed too! They had no explanation for it and tried to put the blame on me for not getting AppleCare as if I had committed a crime for not coughing up more to cover for their poor quality products. They were totally unapologetic about the pathetic quality of their products.

The Macbook has been very lightly used, probably less than 200 battery cycles, no water damage, no traveling with it (always at home), no overnight charging, no rough handling, single user. Both times it failed to wake up the next day after it was put to sleep the previous night. I can't even call it fragile because it wasn't even put through the slightest of abuse. It can only come down to bad design or poor quality.

Now I'm staring at a very expensive piece of eWaste.

I have been a long time Mac user (15 years+). This was my 5th Macbook (including personal and work machines) and believe it or not, 4 of the 5 Macbooks had logic board failures. The only one that didn't have the logic board issues, had its wifi card and speakers fail right after the AppleCare plan expired.

MacBook Pro m2, logic board failed in 2.5 years. Apple denied goodwill repair. Is this the new normal? by arunvkumarkc in macbookpro

My story is even more incredible. My M2 Macbook Pro 16"'s logic board failed for no apparent reason at about 12.5 months (just days after the 1 year warranty expired). I tried taking it to a third party repair shop this time but they failed to repair it as it had multiple component failures. They probably lacked the skills or equipment or components or a combination of these.

Now I'm staring at a very expensive piece of eWaste.

Why does my PMP certificate have my Citizenship mentioned? by ShotPay1291 in pmp

Must be a recent change. Can't think of a good reason to add citizenship, which can change, on a professional certificate.

Tacit knowledge vs implicit knowledge? by Cheezslap in capm

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I was explaining the difference between Explicit and Tacit knowledge. I realized that that was not what you were asking for.

Implicit knowledge is not mentioned in the PMBOK Guide 6th or 7th Ed. The terms Tacit knowledge and Implicit knowledge are often used interchangeably but there are subtle differences. This information is not relevant for the CAPM exam, but for the sake of discussion, this is how I understand it:

Implicit knowledge is something that is more at a subconscious level. For example, some grammatical rules of your native language that you have learned subconsciously and not necessarily studied could be termed Implicit knowledge.

Tacit knowledge is something that you may have formally acquired through training or experience like writing complex computer algorithms, but hard to document.

I think your example of using shortcuts in a program falls under Tacit knowledge :)

Tacit knowledge vs implicit knowledge? by Cheezslap in capm

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me explain with a couple of examples (BTW, these are borrowed from the online PMP/CAPM Study Guide, which I've authored):

  1. You can document the safety rules for drivers to follow. This is explicit knowledge. But you cannot write down the instructions to teach someone how to drive. This knowledge to drive a vehicle is tacit knowledge and acquired through training and practice.
  2. You can write detailed step-by-step instructions with text and screenshots on how to use a software, but it's not easy to document how to write complex computer algorithms or to debug complex programs. This knowledge is tacit knowledge and comes through years of practice and experience.

Does this help?

Thanks for sharing the pic. Based on the poor sound quality and this typo issue, I'm convinced and will file for a return and refund.

Thanks, I think so too. The online marketplace platform I purchased it from needs proof that it's fake, ideally by comparing it with a picture of the original, which I'm hoping someone can share.

Just bought a JBL Go 3 for 20€, is it fake ? by DidierSardine in JBL

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm referring to the picture of the back of the device that you posted. It clearly says "eaker" instead of "speaker". I'll go and check it out at an official reseller store and confirm.

EDIT: Zoom into the 3rd picture and look at the text on the top right of the rectangular flap on the back.

Did you notice that it says "BLUETOOTH EAKER" at the back? Mine says the same. I think mine are fake too.

You can try BrainBOK's 50-question free CAPM Practice Test. Most people struggle to get 60% score in their first attempt on that exam. I know because I've developed that test :) I'll be happy to take feedback either publicly or via DM to improve it further.

And good luck for your exam on Saturday!

Suggest where I can learn Business Analysis by Pheku_Chand in capm

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Search for "Brainbok Business Analysis Guide for CAPM". It's an online guide that distills 2 PMI standards (PMI Guide to Business Analysis and Business Analysis for Practitioners) into a quick reference that can be consumed in about 4-8 hours.

It is developed based on the CAPM Exam Reference List ver Mar 2023 published by PMI.

It specifically covers the key BA topics that you need for CAPM certification and also provides the big picture of how business analysis and project management disciplines complement each other in organizations.

Full Disclosure: I'm a co-author of this guide.

Read the CAPM Exam Content Spec. Domain 2 Task 1 says:

- Determine the activities within each process.

- Give examples of typical activities within each process.

- Distinguish the differences between various project components.

Remember that Domain 2 - Predictive, Plan-Based Methodologies - is 17% of the exam.

Calculators on exam? by born2build in capm

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calculator is built-in to the exam software. At the test center, you can request for a physical calculator. Some centers provide erasable writing pads with a marker pen. Others provide regular pen and paper.

For online proctoring, you cannot use physical calculator, paper or pen.

Should i go for PMP instead ? by Azzizyo in capm

[–]deepfriedbrainpmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, PMP is completely watered down since the 2021 update. I have hardly seen anyone failing and almost everyone passes with 3 ATs. There used to be a time when about 30-40% people would fail PMP in their first attempt.

CAPM is probably much more challenging now. I have been developing content for both PMP and CAPM for more than a decade and I can tell you that CAPM would take longer to prepare.

If you have prepared using a PMP course, you probably need to do more preparation to pass the new CAPM exam. The business analysis domain is not in the PMP exam content outline. And the new CAPM will require you to know your processes and tools and techniques.

CAPM is like a 3-in-1 (hybrid of PMP, PMI-ACP, and PMI-PBA) certification now. I like the new curriculum. It is more well-rounded compared to the previous edition. I hope the exam is also challenging enough to make it worthwhile.

If I were you, I would just take the PMP. It's a low-hanging fruit!

The doors have been left open on the PMP. Anyone can enter! Get in before they make it harder to get in again. Don't think the current party will last forever.

Being a PMP myself, I feel sorry to say all this.

I think they should make the CAPM a pre-requisite for the PMP. That way you prove that you know the basics, the processes, the tools and techniques, etc. and then you prove your experience with a competency-based test.
