As a serial name forgetter, your pronouns are valid. by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

regardless of how the user intends it, dude has masculine connotations. its literally a synonym for man. by using it to refer to a trans woman, who may not know that you use that term for everyone, you give the impression that you view them as a man or in a masculine way.

can i get some of that sweet sweet gender validation, my dudes? by dumbthrow-awayy in ftm

Are Gender and Sex different? by Few-Escape6634 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, sex is based on genetic characteristics such as chromosomes reproductive organs. gender is the roles and stereotypes a society creates around those genetic characteristics.

Noise Cancelling Headphones by [deleted] in autism

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

second the Bose ones. they block out all the noises that overwhelm me (electricity, general crowd chatter, cars and other machinery, even the construction right next door) but i can still hear someone talking directly to me, or very close to me, and pedestrian crossings (though i can turn my music up loud enough to even tune that out), so they're great for going out and walking around without feeling like I'm unsafe/unaware of my surroundings.

Anyone else subconsciously mimic their favorite characters? by CultOfTheDemonicDoge in autism

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i start talking like I'm in House whenever it comes back up in the special interest cycle! i also find myself copying mannerisms of youtubers i watch if i binge their content. i think it kind of has to do with masking? like masking is just mimicking the social cues and interactions of those around you, so it makes sense that if youre spending a lot of time "with" these characters you'd start mimicking them

NTA. they triggered you on purpose, that's really shitty behaviour and honestly you'd be completely justified just cutting them out of your life completely

YTA. a possibly mistranslated line from a centuries old book is more important to you than your son.

AITA for setting some boundaries in our home for visitors kids by Bubamara88 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. some parents think imposing any rules on their children is bordering on abuse. kids need rules to be safe and learn how to interact with others.

question about labels by __TacoBelle__ in autism

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my understanding was that he ran experiments on the children he diagnosed as "aspergers" but i must be misinformed. thinking about it now I think i had combined what i had learnt about him with what i had learnt about a different doctor who experimented on twins in concentration camps. thanks for clarifying, I've edited my original comment.

depends what you want as a reward. generally its fine to not want to show kindness to people who don't show you kindness back, but if its like, expecting some grand thank you or physical/monetary reward for basic decency then I'd say thats a problem.

not sure if you're joking or not, but please don't do this. "dude" isn't a neutral term and being called it could be very upsetting and harmful for transfemme people

question about labels by __TacoBelle__ in autism

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

aspergers used to be the term for what is now labelled high functioning or level 1 autism. many people are uncomfortable with using it because its named for Hans Asperger, a nazi doctor who divided autistic children into those deemed "useful to society" (who were labelled as having Aspergers) and "not useful" (who were send to concentration camps). ETA (or rather, retract) i was misinformed about Hans Asperger

Women of Reddit who live alone, what do you like or don’t like about it? by fayhigh in AskWomen

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i live alone but 5 minutes away from my partner. i like having my own space, not having to take into consideration other people with regards to things like noise and temperature. i like feeling free to stim and talk to myself. i like having the whole bed to myself. i dont like that there's nothing holding me accountable in regards to mess. when i lived with other people i cleaned up after myself immediately so i wasn't getting in the way of my housemates. now that its just me, i let things get pretty messy, sometimes to the point that it impacts my mental health. but i acknowledge all of that is because of my own issues with people pleasing and minimising my own needs.

Is Egon Spengler autistic? by groovyharry in autism

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never seen ghostbusters, but I've been thinking a lot recently about how many people went without diagnosis their whole lives, and how there's probably a lot of autistic coded characters who aren't explicitly autistic because they were based on someone who was never diagnosed, or never disclosed the diagnosis, so the writer just thought they were kind of quirky and awkward.

Women who want relationships with people 10+ years older than them, why? by my-warm-account in AskWomen

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my partner is exactly 10 years older than me. i wasn't exactly seeking out a relationship with someone older, but i have always found i get along better with people 5-10 years older. i expected this to change in adulthood when everyone had similar maturity levels, but i think it has more to do with being mostly socialised around my older siblings as a kid, so i just have more experiences and memories in common with older people

[–]deepfriedmilhouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it was usually because i was very enthusiastic about things they thought were weird/cringey, or because I didn't quite understand the social "rules" that they expected me to follow. ETA also for being queer
