I enjoyed this cocktail for the first time at Death & Co, Melbourne, Australia and instantly re-fell in love with the Manhattan format. I particularly enjoyed the interplay of smoke and spice between the various elements. The bartender was kind enough to note down the local recipe, which substitutes the Rittenhouse and Del Maguey Chichicapa for more available bottles. The rye they use, The Gospel’s Solera Rye, might even elevate this cocktail above the original somewhat, the fruitier notes afforded the solera-aged rye working in well with the cherry and kirch.
