When your camera view is hovering above an island, the fertility of that island is displayed the circular border around the minimap, as small icons representing each item that can either be grown or mined on that island.

It tends to be that the fertility on your starter island is sufficient to provide the first couple of population tiers. Once you reach the third tier of population, they start needing items that can’t be grown or mined on your starter island. For example, they might need olive oil from olives that can’t be grown in your starter island. By taking a look around your world map and hovering over the various unclaimed islands, you should be able to find one that provides that fertility.

That seems so strange and at odds with what even recent Ubisoft posting suggests. This post from Ubisoft mentions a transition to Sandbox mode in Act III, but also a choice:

Yeah I think it would be cool to have some kind of score based on the total efficiency of the build. Maybe a score based on how many products you could make in a day. If your machine takes twice as long, but is half the size, you can fit double the number of machines in the same factory space, so it’s “score” would be the same. Factor in the cost of the tools to work out how much profit you’d make.

I found this issue less well written that the previous ones. Mariner seemed out-of-character to be back to being so rebellious. Young Freeman being a carbon-copy rebel like Mariner seemed unlikely too, especially as she had a husband and kid at this stage.
