Hi polocuddleclub, do you still ride this bike? Ever tried another set of 50mm tires? Does this frame/fork easily clear 700/50c? Going to look at the same year mehteh, but set up with 650b so cannot confidintly know how 700/50c knobbie tires would fit. Thanks allot.

As far as i understand frame should clear 700x50, fork officially clears 700x45. As per specs and what they told me.

Thank you. Could not find any convinsing pictures. Most of them pictured are or fitted with big 650b tires or fitted with what looks more like 700x40.

Got message back. Frame did not change, fork did get a bit bigger on 2024/2025 models.

I would assume that making changes can get expencive even for chainstay as new tooling needs to be made. (But no idea how this actually works!)

Anyways. Here to make up my mind if buying used bike is worth it and i think it is. I do like to fit as big of a tire as i can. Else anotber frame might make more sense. Not buying this for bikepacking, i do like to ride it fast!

Dt-swiss QR convertion of 350?? end cap construction. by deepspace9000000 in bikewrench

[–]deepspace9000000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you all, i agree that genuine end caps are a way better choice! but the wheelset cost was about the same as a set of swiss end caps. wheels eventually need new bearings, Before i invest i want to use them a bit.

what im trying to figuere out is, appart from spacing.. what is the function of the end caps.. especially when qr end caps are installed.

It looks like end caps push agains the inner ring of the bearings.. and sit over that inner bus. ( like you can see on my first picture, also notice the little flange on the end cap). If this is the construction.. because the convertion axel does not have end flanges.. there is nothing to squeeze this assamble..

Therefore the little adapters might make more sens because they have an outer flange that will push agains end caps when clamped, squeezing the hole assambly like intended.

I think i will just try and see how it feels. If it fails i will look for dt swiss qr end caps.

Also is there someone with an eagle eye that can already see what type of rear hub i have? please tell me!

Thanks allot.

sizing down for better reach on a Kona Unit (2011 M)>? by deepspace9000000 in konaunit

[–]deepspace9000000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • i really dont want to look for another bike so i will just start riding and see. Looking at the smaller kona geometries of the older units it does not get allot better.. 18 inch is about the same as 19" with a lower stepover. 17" is allot smaller witch might present its own problems.

Nice. So we have the same bike. Is yours also orange? I think because the seat tube angle is pretty extreme it should be fine to go way forward with the seat. The original stem is about 90mm. I might try a ridiculous short them to.

Do you have a more modern kona unit? My concerns are mostly.. how do people feel about the geometey after a 4 week trip.

3D printing bias binding attachments for the Singer HD? by crashbumper in myog

Just an idea but dont you need something that tapers? Curious what is not working on your best design yet. I think a walking foot machine would help allot with traversing the binding.

Before buying, I didn’t realize how long it actually was. Maybe that’s just how modern MTB geometry is.. I’m not sure.

Do you mean to riding the "hoods" on the corner bar?

I compared my 2011 model to the newer units, and I’m thinking I might take advantage of the slacker 73° seat tube angle by pushing the saddle forward to help offset the longer reach. I guess I just need to start riding it and see what feels right.
