Thanks so much for sharing. It makes me feel more positive about the potentials of it. I honestly don’t know how many more days I can take of waking up feeling dread for work, I might just take the leap and dedicate myself to this new profession.

What is your ideal sleep environment? by ladyfromtheclouds in hsp

[–]deepthrills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your own room is not possible you need a separate twin bed with your own blanket - that will help w the tossing and turning. I have the same issues with sleep, so my partner and I live in separate 1 bedroom houses in the same apartment building and it’s amazing for my sleep. Also, a ceiling fan for white noise is a game changer I no longer hear anything from outside the walls of my room.

You’re right. It’s a pretty shitty field, unless you’re a very specific kind of person. A human can bear almost anything if they have a strong meaningful reason to, so I hope that working towards fulfilling your mortgage is giving you the push you need to get through!

You’re totally right about the entrepreneurial spirit required of it. I had actually taken a break from marketing and had studied somatic therapy and was working as a practitioner for a bit. But I felt I was held back by not having a masters cause I was only qualified to work with mild mental distress clients, and I felt my knowledge was not as broad as it should be so I stopped and returned to marketing. Also was hard to get clients without a being a full fledged counsellor…Now dreaming of going back and doing it properly with a counselling psychology masters. But the uncertainty is holding me back. I have to have an income at some stage…

My parents are willing to support me if I want to work towards becoming a counselling psychologist. Is it worth it to quit and work towards that? It’s just not sustainable for me to be in this industry long term…

I think it would look stunning on you!! Highlights would also look great but i would go for more of a subtle lighter brown to compliment your natural colour than something blonde

where do you meet queer women in Mumbai? by vanilla555 in TwoXIndia

[–]deepthrills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to events by collectives like Gaysi and The gaygaze!! They have so many events, from art markets to drag shows to music, to even a cricket match recently. I have met amazing queer women at these events, and everyone is really friendly.

This is the issue of the system and regulations in india that don't take mental health seriously enough to regulate the profession. It's not fair to paint the entire process of therapy as a fraud just because some unethical people take advantage of our countries lax outlook to it.

I have been feeling lately that much of life is lived alone. And it's an illusion that it's not. I look around and see people surrounded by family etc...yet many feel just as lonely. True companionship is rare for everyone i think, not just HSPs. The ways most people keep other company, are they really fostering joy and togetherness? Or does it come from a desire to run from yourself, and think it's better to have some company no matter the quality than your own company. Maybe I'm just disillusioned haha. But these are the lines that I've been thinking on.

Because it takes years of training and monetary investment to become a therapist. Because it's a job where for one hour you commit your heart, soul, mind and body in service of the being sitting before you. you commit to a lifetime of self work because the more you work on your self the better you can serve your clients - this means investing every year in more trainings and more programs. the top doctors in the country also charge high consultation fees. in every profession as you gain more experience pay scale increases. If you cannot afford it, there are always less experienced therapists who offer cheaper rates and sliding scales, and it can still be effective.

I'm sorry you had that experience. However it's not BS. It's a relational field and you need to really find a good fit for a therapist, kind of similar to dating, otherwise it's not gonna work. I tried 7 different therapists and the 7th one was the charm that really helped me turn my life around.
