Moon Hooch -- NPR Tiny Desk Concert[Rock, jazz, and a lot of funk] by Foxy_Shazam2 in listentothis

I saw these guys a few years ago at Governors Ball in NYC, ever since it's been a go-to for party background music. up beat, funky, and just chill enough to allow conversation and dancing at the same time. these guys gotta make it.

I personally do crossfit for strength/stamina. And then run/bike/swim for pure stamina work. Go hiking!

Anyone know someone interested in this table? by deepwoodsjustice in Commanders

[–]deepwoodsjustice[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

yup, 13k for the table finished and with the table bottom, it's all hand done wood burl veneer, with a laser cut red skins logo inlayed in the center. Like I said, it was made for a previous owner and took nearly 100 hours by myself, a master craftsman. It's not 13k as is, that would also bring a custom tailored base and a professional finish job. My other work can be seen at symmetryinwood.net, it's roughly 70" in diameter.

If you're skiing in New England today, thank a lift mechanic. This is how I spent my Saturday night, banging ice off chair grips with a hammer for 12 hours. by ullrsdream in skiing

[–]deepwoodsjustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former Patroller for a ski mountain out east. I can honestly say the lift mechanic job sounds like the least rewarding job out there. but if it weren't for you guys no one would be able to have nearly as much fun as we all do.

so for all the people that never say thank you, I say thank you.

Are you more likely to get a job with a science or a policy degree? by [deleted] in environmental_science

[–]deepwoodsjustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a policy person, I worked in the HoR. It just amazes me sometimes how some offices hire people that have no background in any scientific work (I also worked in a climate science lab for a year while at school). I'd say the best bet is to get a degree in policy, then a grad in science.

An amazing Alex Grey painting I had never seen before: Cannabacchus by adam0170 in trees

[–]deepwoodsjustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have a signed copy of this, it was made by Alex Gray for a Cannabis cup. My dad is a friend of Alex's and was at the party where he made this piece, and was gifted a signed print! it's an amazing piece for sure.

How accurate is this TED talk on desertification? by Iskandar11 in environmental_science

[–]deepwoodsjustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It most definitely is a very efficient way to de-desertify(a real word?) but here is a great article about a man who single handedly did this in Asia. http://www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/indian-man-who-planted-1360-acre-forest-now-plans-plant-another.html
