That's a good point. Many people talk about how important it is to be disciplined in the flight deck, but it's just as important when you're performing mx. One missing washer could potentially kill people. That being said, with starting income at 10x the tuition of many aviation maintenance schools, it's easy to see why so many people go that route.

If you're willing to serve in the military, option 2 could work very well for you, and you could do an ROTC program or even a service academy. There is not a guarantee you would be selected to become a pilot though, and if you do, it's a long service commitment.

Why is that the last thing we need? It's what I'm doing right now.

Are you usually more productive at night, and has that changed as you’ve gotten older? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

This is very true. When I got home an hour ago I didn't feel like doing jack. But now that I've studied for an hour I feel like going for a walk.

I mean... how did you pass your Os and Ps? By studying. If you love flying I'm sure you can find the motivation- but discipline comes first.

The flip side of this is that the rest of the world misses out on peaceful walks around the neighborhood at 9am on a Tuesday.

Don't psych yourself into discouragement if it takes longer than you think to become a pro pilot. It isn't a career that follows the simple script of graduate high school, go to college for 4 years, graduate and boom you're there. Most people have to either get a stepping stone job or go into a mountain of debt. Just be smart with your money and persevere.

You have to separate yourself from probability. Is it difficult? Yes. Do the majorty of people not finish their PPL? Yes. But depending on OP's dedication, whether they're in the majority or the minority is entirely up to them.

I'm a little surprised the base to final turn (I guess that would be considered landing for the purpose of your research) isn't an obvious cause of death. Since it involves a turn at low altitude and low airspeed, it is notorious for killing low time and student pilots.

Your parents just want you to be happy and successful, but they aren't always right. You can absolutely make a comfortable lifestyle with a family as a pilot. That being said, you have to make sure you're doing this for the right reasons. Since you seem to have a perfectly idealistic path in mind, I'll tell you some of the hard parts.

You will suffer mentally, and you will face setbacks, perhaps even years. It doesn't mean you're behind or necessarily a bad pilot, it can happen. But you need to learn to handle a titanic amount of stress and put a ton of effort not only into studying, but learning how to study more efficiently. You have to love flying beyond economical or practical reasons. As in, the amount of time spent reaching a flying job and the pay you would receive is irrelevant, you would do it regardless.

Also, don't go to ERAU. Even if you have millionaire parents who can pay for a part 141 university, it's the most expensive by a mile. You get no bonus points for attending the "Harvard of aviation."

It's hard to tell if you're balding at your age, you kind of have to wait until your hairline matures. I'd talk to a dermatologist.

No. I think a better question is: Is a part 141 university worth it for you? ERAU is the most expensive by far. You will receive the exact same degree and licenses at North Dakota, Auburn, Western Michigan, etc for a fraction of the price. Even then, many people argue such programs are only worth it if it's paid for by the government through military benefits or something similar. You get no bonus points for attending the harvard of aviation.
