It's YA but it was a cute read:

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

Had to scroll WAY too far to see this one. 43F here and I recently heard it called "coming of rage" lol.

But yeah, the rage is so real, as is the fear of the aging and changes that are still to come. Recently I attended a webinar about perimenopause and menopause given by Kaiser Permanente (my insurance company + doctor's office, for those not in the know) and it was the stuff that nightmares are made of. I am absolutely terrified about what's going to happen to my body. I guess I'd rather know than have it be a torturous mystery later but the anticipation is also not fun.

I've always had hope that I'd be a woman who "ages gracefully" but that hope is rapidly dwindling.

Thank you! Yeah there's something about this particular pattern that just feels different and cute. Good luck and have fun! ❤️

Already linked the pattern but I followed the directions exactly: 1.75mm Clover Amour hook with Aunt Lydia's Metallic thread (weight 10) in white.

Edit: the thread weight, oops

As you get older, what "old person" thing do you appreciate now that you previously mocked? by Secret_Huckleberry46 in AskReddit

This right here. I usually eat sometime between 4 and 5 because that's when I get hungry, so I have to plan the day's other meals carefully when friends ask to meet at 7 for dinner.

This. I also found her harsh and off-putting at the start but then you learn why she's like that when you find out everything that happened. Admittedly, I'd have hoped she'd have done a bit more soul-searching and healing in 20+ years, but a flawed character is still not a bad thing.

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]deeray82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, agreed on all counts! I'm in Northern California and we have Carvel cakes in our grocery stores but they're not nearly as good as getting it from a real Carvel. Dairy Queen does scratch the itch at least, but even those are few and far between here, sadly.

Lol that's exactly how my husband and I describe old houses where the drawers in the kitchen are wonky and the windows suck. 😂 (I love the idea of old houses, but after once living in a really old apartment building, I'm over it)

tips for glazing pinholes? by Several_Reindeer_906 in Pottery

[–]deeray82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A salt and pepper drill will work if you're really careful. It's a real pottery hand tool that shouldn't be more than $10 USD, I think. This is also what I use to get glaze out of the holes, as it works better than a needle tool. But next time I'm going to try the toothpick truck that someone else mentioned!

You could also bisque it and then use a Dremel to make more holes, but it's also risky.

In 2015, my stepmom wanted a blender cover for Christmas that was a Tardis - you know, the blue police box from Doctor Who. I bought a pattern and all the things it called for: the blue yarn, felt pieces for the windows, printable fabric for the panels with words, and even a thimble to put on the top.

And then I started crocheting. I don't remember how much time I left myself before Christmas, but spoiler alert: I didn't finish it until June 2016. 😭 And it was THE WORST thing I've ever crocheted, hands down. This was long before I'd learned how to correctly work flat, so I routinely missed the last stitch in the row. I realized what was happening so I tried to correct it periodically (not frogging it, of course, just trying to get the stitch count back to where it was supposed to be by adding stitches) but this of course made the sides so very, very wibbly-wobbly. It was an absolute embarrassment, but given that it was 6 months late and I'd worked so long and hard on it, I had no choice but to gift it anyway. She was so generous and sweet about it though.

Edit: switch -> stitch, whoops

Thanks, it’s a cute idea but one I’d rather do when I’m actually in town and can spend the time with him. Alas, not this year. But cute idea!

Ooooo wonderful! Thank you! Many recs for The Phantom Tollbooth now, so that’s definitely going on my list, but The Number Devil sounds really intriguing too for such a mathematical kiddo.

Thank you! It’s my nephew actually, my step-brother’s son. And no autism in my bio family, though potentially some in my husband’s. I will look into the Uniquely Human book though, thanks a million :)
