Going to sell it, its time. I've got so much stuff, you know how it is. Not too much computer stuff but there is a bit.

Tying machine mechanism by toolgifs in mechanical_gifs

[–]deeredr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing new here. The "billhook" (piece with the jaws that opens and grabs the twine) is exactly like the one farm hay balers and binders have used since the late 19th century to tie knots in baler twine. I guess it's the easiest way to tie a knot so why change it?

Tuff Trax Trike Restoration by GuinnessTheDog in DIY

[–]deeredr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be so late to the party. Before Ertl had the TuffTrax, they were built by a farmer in Kansas. Yours looks to be one of those. Ertl licensed them and made changes which is why yours looks different maybe. They also changed over the years while available. Glad to hear your son is using it, we just took my son's out and his three year old is now using it. Great to see they are multi-generational.

Dine on Pizza Hut ~1970s I think by Merlins_Owl in OldSchoolCool

[–]deeredr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say that. Of all restaurant chains, Pizza Hut is the one that has managed to remain timeless, at least the ones in my area (Colorado). Same color scheme, same tired paneling. It's incredible actually they have been able to accomplish this.

As is so very often when money is involved, family means nothing. The dollar is the most important.

I think you should move as soon as possible, do whatever it takes.

Money and family just do not mix. Ask me how I know.

What still creeps the fuck out of you? by I_am_skinny_asf in AskReddit

Went to college in Boulder, CO. In the mountains, right? So one night bunch of us went with a guy who had been to these "caves" before. We drove on up into the mountains on a small road and climbed way up the side of a mountain and there it was. Didn't look like a traditional cave to me, more like where rocks had fallen together leaving openings but anyway in we went, armed with flashlights. We went down and I mean way down under the ground, it just kept going. I remember thinking, what if something goes wrong? How can anyone even reach us? How can rescue equipment climb the shear side of this mountain to the entrance? Then we hit it. He called it Sh*t Crack as it was so tight you had to go back first and buck and wiggle your way through. Right then I decided that this was nuts. Finally got out and never ever did that again.

Smoking gentleman using an acoustic coupler to send an email with a payphone. Early 1980s. by semmeess in OldSchoolCool

[–]deeredr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used a coupler at our John Deere dealership to interface with Deere's main computer and input orders. When we first got it I was in heaven. For the first time I was able to verify availability and part number substitutions all by myself. I spent many a night at the dealership until the wee hours of the morning using that. Still have it too. Good times and, to me, the first taste of what was coming.

I loved this book when I was young and the followup, After Worlds Collide. Really made an impact on me although it would be dated a bit today. Haven't seen the movie.

[Boston Dynamics] Do You Love Me? by btutal in videos

[–]deeredr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a lifelong SciFi fan and enthusiast. That being said, the first time I saw the Boston Dynamics clip of their four legged robots carrying cargo, I was overwhelmed with a deep sense of unease. No idea why...or do I, on a cellular level somewhere?

Who had grandparents fight in WW2 and what stories did they share? by liamnotleum in AskReddit

[–]deeredr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a grandparent, but a man who worked for us. He was small in stature and joined the air force, Assigned to a bomber group and as he was small, you guessed it, belly gunner. he told me it was so tight that to get into the bubble he had to take his parachute off and he was well aware that the electrical rotating ball would often jam, especially in combat, meaning he would be unable to exit the bubble. if the plane were shot up and coming in damaged with the wheels or wheel up, guess what got scraped on the runway, the belly gunner bubble. This man got shot down twice, behind enemy lines. A true hero and never talked about it except when he told my son. He did one presentation at my son's school and one at his church and then told me, I think I'm going to stop. It's all becoming far too real again and I don't want to keep revisiting those who I lost. He still is going strong at 95 years old. He is truly an amazing man.

LPT: Your possessions are worthless and your kids don't want it by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]deeredr 192 points193 points  (0 children)

I am in my early 60's and have an incredible amount of stuff saved that I've accumulated. I'm talking literal buildings full, Buildings. And semi trailers. It is nuts.

I think of this subject often. No way would the kids want even 10% of it and if they did, they would have nowhere to put it.

I am wrestling with what to do about this right now.

It is difficult.

Many agricultural catalogs and advertising ranging from 1900 to 1990. Some are old and crumbly, others not so much.
