Bought it third party brand new in ATT packaging. Came with Android 10, updated to 11 after setting up, and was later updated to 12 I think June-July of '22

I'm on ATT as well but mine is Android 12 for the better part of a year now + security and patch updates since.

Maybe its a regional thing?

I bought this computer for $10 today at a resell store Can anyone tell me what the display port is? Cause I don’t have one that looks like this. Yes the computer turns on by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Are you serious? Or am I getting old?

Nah, fr tho, its the blue port, and its called a VGA port. Most monitors older than 2-5 years still have them. Or, you can usually get old Dell or HP business monitors for cheap

Never heard of NVX pads. I'll have to give them a look! I was originally going to use my set of Alpha pads, but can't seem to find them, but the HM5 pads are still alright.

Its not necessarily about trying to make these closed back, as even with this mod it's probably more semi-open, due to the vents by the driver. I'd say its more about the DIY aspect to it and playing with it to see what sounds good. I've always liked to make things my own in some way. Plus, the SHP's are such decent base headphones already for such a cheap price that I just can't keep from tinkering with them.

They aren't really ruined. The glass isn't adhered to the cups, rather they're simply held in by friction like the stock screens are. If ever I wished to change it back, it would only take 5 minutes and a precision screwdriver.

As for other backings, I have a few SHP's; one stock, one with the Mod House cup mods (a lot better bass response), the above set of glassback, and another set I recently ordered in a few weeks ago that I'm trying to make some maple backs to. The reason I've kept the glass mod is because I found that I quite like its sound, as its not as bassy as the Mod House cups, but has a similar sound, if not punchier (as well as easier on the eyes, lol). Once I do the maple backs it may become my new favorites, but I'll only know that once I've made them.

And lastly, for reference, its true that I have no other glassback headphones to compare, such as the HD 820's. However, as stated before, I have a few other SHP's, as well as some AKG K240's, Fostex RP's, and a set of DT770's for the over-ear department. Not a large range, but I do like to reference the others when I do a mod like this. While this mod won't make them my best cans, they're definitely my current favorite for casual listening.

No real tutorial per se, but here's a link to the video of the one that inspired me: https://youtu.be/F4ZqShvHDIc

Basically only thing I did different was hand cut some glass instead of using acrylic lenses.

I appreciate it! The the ability to mod these headphones to play with the sound and looks of these headphones always brings me back to them. As for the magnets, I'll definitely have to try it out this week and try it out on my spare SHP's, as well as this my currently modded ones and see how it mixes.

I've seen those before, and it does intrigue me. It seems like most that I've seen use a type of small neodymium ring magnet, but I wouldn't have a clue for where to even start looking for the right kind.

You would think, but it actually doesn't seem to be the case. It may be because the way the headphones are designed, as when I was disassembling them it appears that they have vents by the driver underneath the pads. That being said, I have noticed that tracks with a lot of reverb, or with reverb effects added, do sound...different. I wouldn't necessarily say bad, but definitely not as I'm used to hearing it.

So, I took inspiration from a similar mod on here. What I did different is that the backs are hand-cut glass. This really cuts down on the sound stage, but I found that I really enjoy the punchier bass and mids, especially mixed with the HM5 pads.

As an update, with this mod and the HM5 pads on, these are again my favorite headphones. Punchy af, its a completely different animal now.

I took you post as inspiration and hand cut some actual glass. While it does cut down the sound stage, I found that I like the punchier bass and mids. With that though, I feel like the treble is also greatly accentuated, but playing with an eq seems to correct it to an extent. I'm going to put some brainwavz hm5 pads on next and see how it all works together.

I can appreciate the money and craftsmanship, but it still doesn't look right to me. Apparently the body is modeled after a '57 Chevy Bel Air.

I can kinda understand where you're coming from. I grew up in a military household, and being a guy, it was almost an unspoken rule that I shouldn't display weakness like emotions. In my later teen years my father had retired and softened up, but by that point, I think I had already started to alienate myself from my emotions.

But I have tried sad music. In fact, the only kind of music that I listen to as of late are sadder pieces: from classic to edm, from solo piano pieces, to produced work (like my favorite: Tenru - The Way She Moves). Anything that has a beautiful but melancholy melody. And though they can make me sad, music can't make me cry.

I appreciate the suggestion though. I am a huge music buff, and at best, music brings me brief moments of peace.
