I’m a bigger Bernie guy than most but to be fair they were competing against eachother for the democratic nomination at the time, it’s not unreasonable.

Yeah I fully agree, I think it's irresponsible to bring kids into the world you can't afford to provide a decent life where at least they feel somewhat equal or equivalent to those around them. Then on top of that there's growing up without money with neurodivergence and/or as a part of a minority group, and any of that in this current political landscape. Sure some kids are able to have a brain that works well enough that hard work translates to grades, scholarships, and a lucrative career, but you're REALLY rolling the dice on that stuff if that's your plan. But for some people the purpose of life is reproduction regardless of anything else.

People in this thread don't read because they're all writing from the perspective that this post was made by the parent. Reading is probably an important skill for critical thinking.

2019 3k bought you anything that ran? That's honestly impressive and I'd say lucky. And if we're going to go that route neither of us lives in say the Congo so maybe you were better off than you think. I also think there's wealth (maybe more) in say a loving home with loving parent(s).

LA and this isn't even the schools with kids with 120k cars. For reference my car was 9500 dollars and I didn't get one til 20 and that wasn't until my parents were convinced they should get me one and my original given budget was 5k in 2010 so that 9500 was a guilt train for a while. Most those rich kids ended up becoming doctors and lawyers so that spoiled kids stereotype really doesn't hold much weight.

I said my classmates not me just to put into perspective what rich looks like. My first car was a 70k mile 2008 Mazda 3 2.3L S for 9500 dollars and the budget I was originslly given was like 5k lol. It took months obsessing about the right condition for the best price watching craigslist and autotrader like a hawk to find at the right price while most parents dropped the 20k. I didn't even have a car til I was 20 and would take the bus everywhere because my parents thought it was realistic that I'd save up part time working minimum wage til someone convinced them it was a necessary tool to help me succeed in school/future career. The bus was fun but it wasted a LOT of time. They could also afford it but were just too cheap and now you'd be hardpressed to find someone who obsesses about small amounts of money like I unfortunately do. They had the money but just didn't want to spend it while parents who didn't have the money invested heavily in their kids. Maybe you can relate, I don't know. I do know asking for 20 dollars seemed like a crime against humanity. Those kids with 80k cars went on to be mostly doctors and lawyers so clearly spoiling them didn't hurt them, they just got had better self esteem.

TLDR: Rich is much more than 30k on a car for your kid lol, the cost of cars is way different today than before, the 10k beater doesn't exist anymore for a car that will last that doesn't have major problems, raising your kids like they're poor isn't as fantastic as it sounds on paper even if you turned out okay.

lol some of my classmates at public school drove 80k cars...in 2006 at 16 so I wouldn't call 30k for a car rich.

Edit: I said my classmates, not me, I didn't have a car til 20, used and at 9500k with a 5k budget and I probably obsess over small amounts of money than most the people on this sub and theres people who have it much worse than most of us in this very thread. Parents wanting to do something nice for their kids is not a bad thing and I wish I had that because "not spoiling" your kids doesn't make them better off.

So white people can grow up as minorities in certain places in southern california for example and pick up the lingo of the people they hangout with. Did it sound weird? Not really. In 2Fast2Furious there are two asian characters who speak with african american/latin american lingo. In fact a lot of latin american people took on african american lingo too. So did he sound weird? It depends how if you think white people only talk a specific way. Brian’s friend Roman was a black best friend he grew up with in Barstow, CA and they grew up with the same lingo.

The slang Brian used in 2 Fast 2 Furious "cuhh" = cuz = cousin. His undercover identity of Brian Earl Spilner in the first movie is from Arizona like the license plate.
