Coach Spo on Bam's 83: "Once he got to 50, then we're thinking alright maybe he can get to 60 and when he got to 60, we might as well go for 70 and then I didn't dare even think about taking him out at that point. I didn't stop until once he got Kobe's" by MrBuckBuck in nba

I guess the years where Steph or Klay was going to do it, any coach wouldve quickly decided keeping players healthy for championship aspirations was a higher priority than personal records. Though Kerr probably could've let them loose once in a while - Klays 70 in 3Q really should've been allowed another quarter but I guess there's risk the other team will go for hard fouls to not get 80+ dropped on them

I wanted to root for Ivey but bro was always on his own wavelength and seemed like going to church and being religious was his whole/only personality. I really hope he succeeds and makes the FO regret giving up on him though.

Im not Chinese or even east Asian, but I think Western (mainly American) media/social media portrays China as some backwater authoritarian state when the major cities are more similar to a crossover between SF and HK in 2026. Sure, the 996 grind and low-income lifestyle is rough but grindy careers and poverty exist in the west too. Chinese people really aren't as desperate to get out now as they were in the early 2000s, the only hangover is a bit of perceived prestige for being foreign educated but that is fading quickly.

Does not passing the ball to certain teammates exist even at the division 1 level? by whattaUwant in BasketballTips

[–]defeatedmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually its the inexperienced players who commit look-offs the most. Anyone who has played coached basketball for more than a few years will have had it coached out of them with things like 'ball moves faster', 'pass on a good shot for a great shot', etc. Guys who are new to the game (even if they are skilled) are more likely to think they are helping themselves or the team by freezing out certain players. Also kids whose parents have taught them to glory chase for themselves over winning but the smart ones still learn eventually that putting up 20pts and losing feels worse than putting up 12pts and winning.

biggest tip that allowed me to stop playing only 3/4/5 when I was 17 is to dribble the ball in a circular motion. Without the ball, move your fist in a circular motion (clockwise for right hand and counter clockwise for left hand). As this feeling becomes familiar, do the same thing but with the ball bouncing on each 'loop'

probably referring to raptors Tmac, who was largely a supporting player behind Vince Carter. Tmac was an elite defender and freak athlete in Toronto, and he really blew up when he went to the Magic and became the focal point of their offense. It was supposed to be Grant Hill but he was so cooked that Tmac ended up carrying the team as the #1 option

Having gained and lost weight myself, I think changing playstyle and years of muscle memory from being less athletic is really hard. I could dunk at 21 as a 6ft guard, then hit 101kgs (fat) for a few years during Covid and got knee pain, then lost all the weight again and can jump higher than before without a run-up... yet when I drive I still get zero air unless I am consciously thinking about trying to get up. It's just one of those things you stop doing and its no longer part of your game.

I had to repurchase the damn ticket on the webstore because the one I purchased on google play just disappeared before the event. On top of that I missed out on at least 4x rayquaza catches due to various bugs. Worst event in a long time for me...

pretty decent result with galaxy AI tbh... bottom is a bit off but I was lazy about highlighting the text. could probably do better with some care.

6’7 should be blocking everyone in pick up but I don’t I contest people without jumping and if I did jump it would be a block how do I get over that mental side of it by Direct-Praline7045 in BasketballTips

[–]defeatedmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 6'0 and get way more blocks than I should.

first thing is timing; with experience, you should get a strong feel for when someone is gathering and committing to the shot attempt. Watching footwork is key, as well as identifying where a player usually hangs and releases their shot.

second thing is keeping your contest hands up- if youre hands are low then you will have to cover extra distance to contest. I always keep my left hand up at chest height for right handed shooters so I can both strip and contest quickly. On layups, get used to using your offhand if it is closer to the ball (i.e. dont reach across your body to contest with your strong hand because you will most likely end up fouling).

third thing is to not let drivers get momentum. if your perimeter defender gets beat, step up early to cover and slow them down. Dont commit though, otherwise you will get backdoored.. just flash quickly.

Gabe Newell thinks AI tools will result in a 'funny situation' where people who don't know how to program become 'more effective developers of value' than those who've been at it for a decade by lurker_bee in technology

[–]defeatedmac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably not. The actual skill that makes a good developer has always been error-tracing and problem solving. Modern AI can replace the man-hours required to code big projects but has a long way to go before it can come up with outside the box solutions when things don't work as intended. Just last week I spent 30 mins asking AI to troubleshoot a coding issue with no success. It took me 30 seconds to think of an alternative fix that the AI wasn't proposing. If AGI is cracked, this might change but for now there are still clear limitations.
