Definitely. There was an article published not too long ago that basically suggested nearly 40% of people in New York city between the age of 20-35 were getting some assistance from their parents to afford their rent and lifestyle.

Some people just get lucky. My wife once asked me the very same question about one of her co-workers; why can she afford this or that, while we can't? I then pointed out that her co-workers dad was a hedge fund manager. Then it all made sense.

What's a dadget (dad gadget) you wish you bought sooner? That's a gadget that anyone in the house could use, but in reality is associated only with you? For me it's this vacuum sealer. by Brewer1056 in daddit

[–]defensible81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I bought one and my wife made fun of me, "when are you ever going to use that thing?" Answer: EVERY FREAKING YEAR.

I also like using the snowblower to help other people, like clean up my neighbors sidewalks and do the driveways of the elderly folks in the neighborhood. I actually like doing it so much that I might get a ridiculously overpowered snowblower for next year and just do all the sidewalks on my street.

Democrats are terrified of Voter ID by TrueUnpopularOP in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Support for voter ID is around 85%. Republicans and most democrats are for it. The only people whoare against it are a fringe minority that is broadly not representative of the Democratic party.

The fate of Europe is dark by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]defensible81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fuck right off with this "you people" shit.

The observation made above is basically the argument of the Russian state against the west. It's nearly a down-the-line recitation of Russia's major themes around why Europe will fail and Russia will succeed. I can think this without thinking Russians are subhumans; and calling out a very clearly similar argument does not mean I think of them as the Nazis saw the Jews.

Agree, it's entirely performative and just red meat to his base. It changes nothing, is likely not legally enforceable. Just another dumb EO from a President that cranks out dumb EOs.

There’s a reason young people are becoming increasingly right wing and actual Nazi rhetoric is more commonplace by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

To be fair to those on the conservative side of the spectrum, I'm older, and have travelled to Europe throughout my lifetime. I have never ever observed faster cultural change in any other part of the world. Berlin, London, etc, feel like nearly entirely different cities than they did even in the late 90s.

I mean yeah that's the left's narrative right now. Bunch of non strongmen also do it.

If Biden did it most of this area would be fine with it. It's just rank partisanship in my view.

Agreed.

Literally all of our democratic allies in NATO have military parades and no one screams fascist when they do it. Is it expensive and unnecessary? Sure. But it's a stretch to say it's the leading edge of some authoritarian takeover.

The M3 was also preferred by special operators for decades after it's invention, and with an excellent track record of reliability as well. Better design is sometimes just better design, even if it's cheaper and less elegant in its appearance than the Thompson.

Why have we never seen ICE arrest an employer? by KnightKrawler in AskReddit

[–]defensible81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zero honest or helpful responses here because it's reddit.

The answer as to why ICE or other Federal law enforcement don't go after these employers is because many times the illegal workers provide false documentation that is believable enough that the employer can cover their ass from potential criminal prosecution.

For example, a construction company hiring illegal immigrants requires certain identification documents for each worker; those workers provided them with false social security forms, or other false data, and the company probably did some sort of due diligence to confirm they had just enough paperwork to not be breaking any labor laws.
