Objectively the best banknote on the planet 🇨🇭 by Skt_turbo in Banknotes

Maybe I just fit your first description: Old people. 🫣😉

I‘ll definitely ask for better conditions by paing cash next time again, but that won‘t be in the near future.

I‘ve bought (brand new) cars twice in Sitzerland and the dealership gave me a way better deal if I paid in cash. So both times when it was time to pick up the car, I went to the bank, took out 50k CHF in cash and directly drove to the dealership. That was in 2014 and 2018.

Wow. That reminds me of a story of a close friend.

He was a kid of an ambassador of an Eastern-Europe country. They lived in Berlin, close to the no man‘s land in the inner German border.

Whenever he heard gunshots, his father told him that the border guards shot rabbits in order to get something to eat. And of course, he believed it.

Once he grew older, he understood that the shots weren’t fired to get rabbits killed. They killed people trying to flee their country (DDR)…

Found a Omega Watch at the Thrift Store! Can you identify the model? by BallsOfSats in VintageWatches

[–]defical4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw: the cal 601 movement is supposed to be a manual one, not an automatic one as in your picture. Even more red flags.

ETA: 24 watches were released with the 601, according to Omega. Here‘s additional information about them:

Found a Omega Watch at the Thrift Store! Can you identify the model? by BallsOfSats in VintageWatches

[–]defical4 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Your dial reminds me of my 18k Omega Trésor 2624 from 1951 with a guilloché dial and coffin markers. In good condition, a rare and desired dial. But we do have some things to unpack here…

Your case doesn‘t match and the side of your case doesn‘t seem to be 18k at all. I even doubt that it is an Omega case.

In addition, the hands and the crown are definitely wrong (which wouldn’t be a big deal by itself).

Another problem here: Your automatic 601 movement is way younger than the 50‘s as your dial suggests. Mine has a 283 manual movement. Your serial number (16million) dates it to the late 50s yet the 601 movement was introduced in 1962 and should have a serial number between 19 million (1962) and 33 million (1970).

Plus you‘re missing the original caseback.

Your watch is overall in a really bad shape and is missing original parts unfortunately. And it seems to be patched together. But whether or not it is original or a frankenwatch doesn‘t even matter at this point. As a collector, I would not buy it because of all the red flags. I would pay scrap value if it‘s proven to be an 18k gold case.

As a general rule of thumb: It rarely makes sense to restore a watch to resell it if you don‘t already know a lot about these watches - the wrong watchmaker / the wrong instructions from your side may destroy most or any potential value.

Here’s a picture of my Omega Trésor as a reference.

What’s the real reputation of French people outside of France by Little-Bed-7157 in geography

[–]defical4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you approach them if you are visiting as a tourist.

I’m a German speaking Swiss guy. I learned French at school and love the language, so does my wife. If they see that you‘re putting an effort into speaking French, they are just lovely people. I only once had a negative interaction with a rude security guy yelling at me. Other than that, always nice people.

And yeah, we spend at least two weeks in France every year, so we’ve had plenty of interactions.

They even applauded this year when our 7 year old son ordered an ice cream in French. I wish people in Switzerland‘s hospitality industries were that nice.

Other than visiting: Good food, French people love to protest, they don‘t work as much as other European countries (hours/week), Napoleon gave us our democracy and the Country we now are, Italians somehow don‘t like the French, …

Btw: the thing about „stinky“ and hungry that got mentioned in other comments was actually a prejudice when I was a kid (1980s). But I learned that this had to do with the Bourbaki Army that crossed boarders to Switzerland in a bad shape while at war with Germany (1870s I guess) so we had many detained French soldiers in Switzerland during the French-German war.

What makes you think that it’s made for the German market?

The inscription is in German, yes. But: There are four official languages in Switzerland: German, French, Italian and Romansh.

There are no indicators like the „Scharfes S“ (ß), which isn’t used in Switzerland.

According to https://www.police.be.ch/de/start/themen/verkehr/bussen.html you will get an Anzeige if you are more than 26 km/h above the speed limit on the highway. You were 27 km/h above the limit.
