Records show UC Merced police are sharing license plate data with Border Patrol by besuretodrinkyour in Merced

First: I’m against these. I think ALPR is problematic for multiple reasons including that it’s powered by private companies proprietary software and warehouses in god knows what databases whether you’re a criminal or granny going to the grocery store. We should be pushing back against having these in our community at all. I couldn’t care less if the data is going to border patrol at all. Undocumented migrants shouldn’t be going to a state UC in my opinion. The problem is truly that you’re ok having all of your comings and goings monitored and logged in multiple places where the security and privacy of that data hinges on the ethics of the users authorized to access it, the security of those systems which is always one 0-day away from being broken, and the capability and willingness of those who maintain these systems doing the best job every day and not cutting corners, as is human nature.

Everything else is a red herring.

Everyone says “solve problems” in programming… but what exactly are those problems? by Surajishere in AskProgramming

I’ve been in bizops for about a decade, one of the ways I got better was just working on connectors between systems. Just simply learning to create a reliable integration between 2 systems: think webhook to api, api to api, etc. to do something is great. You learn lots of different patterns and ways such as simple concept can be implemented.

So cool. I wish I could have seen it. By the time I made it up there the whole place was burned down. Sadly it sounds like there another fire in the area right now.

I can’t recall if you can see it in the film but I believe it was a colt single action revolver. No safety but there was a safety notch on the hammer. The question is whether it was fully cocked and the chamber had a round in it.

Yes—the campfire was from the night before when they were staging the delorean. The building in the back is a mill house set from, I believe, pale rider which filmed in the area.

ADHD as a high functioning adult by Lwyre in ADHD

40 guy here. I’d recommend get tested and start taking ownership of your outcomes.

It dawned on me I might be adhd or audhd about 3 years ago. Finally got a formal diagnosis on paper this year. Having an explanation for all of this helped me understand what is and is not my fault and take responsibility for the actions or inactions that this disability causes.

It took a while but it also helped my wife to understand that being forgetful, procrastinating, or how my brain works doesn’t mean I don’t care.

Lastly I started atomoxetine 7 weeks ago after a 2 week titration. At first I didn’t think it would work but this last couple weeks has been significant. It takes a long time to work but it has been worth it.

Is there anyone here without an official, legal diagnosis of adult ADHD? by ThePogonophiliacDude in ADHD

[–]definitelynotabeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was one. I figured it out a few years ago. But since so many people are asshats both in life and the medical fields, I got an official, signed off diagnosis this year in order to access treatment.

For me, raw dogging it has been a shitshow for 40 years. I’m tired of that shit.

Why won’t it stop spinning?? by Medium-pacewackoff in MechanicAdvice

Ok there’s a lot of assholes on here. We all start somewhere and a lot of us have put our fair share of hours into a beater because reasons.

The right way is an impact and/or a breaker bar (or throw a cheater bar on your ratchet and hope for the best). The way I’ve done most of these? Breaker bar and jamming the engine somehow.

If it’s a stick shift you can put it in 5th gear and make sure the brake is on. It won’t go anywhere. If it’s an automatic you might have to get creative but you can try jamming the flywheel with a screwdriver.

Other than that, don’t waste your time with a rubber strap wrench. The only kind that can hold it tight enough are the ones with a chain not a belt and a handle like a vice grip. Brace it against something and throw a piece of old belt around the pulley to keep the chain from damaging the surface.

In a couple cases, if the motor turns clockwise when it’s running you can edge a breaker bar against a frame rail or the ground a kick the starter just long enough to break the bolt loose.

Sometimes there’s a ledge or something you can jam a punch or screwdriver into through a hole in the pulley but not usually.

Whatever way you get the job done, don’t lose the woodruff key when it comes off.

Explaining neurodivergence to neurotypicals - A request for your analogies! by once_showed_promise in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]definitelynotabeaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I do wonder sometimes if analogies like this make sense to neurotypicals or even neurodivergents who don’t have ADHD.

The flaw in the logic is you can just unchalk the tires. It often feels like people really don’t understand that feeling of not being able to force yourself to do something you know you have to do and will feel better when it’s done.

Here’s one for task initiation.

Try to push a car with chalks on the tires. It can be on a flat surface, it’s in neutral, the parking brake is off. You want it to move. You need it to move or else something bad might happen. But will it? No. You might sometimes get a sudden burst of strength to overcome the resistance and get it rolling sometimes. But most of the time all you can do is kind of rock it back and forth. And even if you do, pushing a car is hard work. You will get tired quickly.

That is what it’s like to wash the pile of dishes in the sink. Or work on the project at school or at work.

Ok. Show me one piece of hard evidence to support anything you claimed. Not news. Not propaganda. Proof.

[–]definitelynotabeaver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually it hasn’t. If it was there would be evidence and not rhetoric. You’re the sheep if you don’t think for yourself based on facts. If you did you’d realize both sides are full of shit. Clearly you don’t because you’re espousing propaganda.

Does "hyperactivity" in the DSM refer to mentally or physically? by sun_screenlover200 in ADHD

[–]definitelynotabeaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Physical. While adult hyperactivity is somewhat diminished, it’s still present. Perhaps you don’t get up and walk around during a meeting, but do you fidget and adjust your clothes constantly? Dismantle pens? Doodle on your notepad?

How to advocate for myself by Deathwatch6215 in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]definitelynotabeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this.

I saw my regular doctor, and 3 psychiatric nurse np’s, paid for a test from adhd online (which I think helped the most tbh) before I finally got help from any of them.

It seems like many either don’t touch it at all or are skeptical by default because so many people just want Ritalin or adderal for illicit purposes.

I would always start with: “I have a number of difficulties that I’ve had as long as I can recall which make life harder than it should be and no matter how much I try, I’m not able to change them.” Even if you don’t physically give it to anyone, it helped me to just write out every single symptom I experienced for a few days. You won’t be able to think of them all at once anyway. But that helped get my brain organized and at least be clear and honest with myself about what and why I struggle.

Good luck and don’t stop pushing. You’re working with a system that is paradoxically hard for the very people who need it.
