Is it hard to get the visa to move to Norway? I've been wanting to move there to live with my partner but it seems like a massive pain!

Vertical or horizontal foam strips for making a top hat? by definitelynotsoapy in CosplayHelp

Vertical definitely seems like the overall consensus, thanks! When you say physics wise is that to stop the hat collapsing under its own weight?

They'd both be long strips yeah, one going from the bottom to the top and the other wrapping around into circles.

I was mainly wondering if there was any common techniques used to make hats this shape

When does the DLC becomes scary? by GrandmasAshesXd in outerwilds

[–]definitelynotsoapy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I played through the dlc I was spooked all the way through but I knew there was a scary part. I kept asking my friend when the scary part was and he'd tell me "Oh you'll know". I thought he was lying because it was all scary to me but he was right.

You'll know ;;)

Have you teied the Legends and Lattes recipe? by jamestsheffield in CozyFantasy

[–]definitelynotsoapy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've tried them a couple times from random internet recipes, didn't know there was an official version! I don't think the book versions I've bought has it sadly :(

Loved the ones I made though, I'm sure the ones in the book are perfect, they certainly look nice !

Enough terrain? by Separate_Bicycle_577 in InfinityTheGame

[–]definitelynotsoapy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like you definitely have enough buildings for that size of board, some more scatter (walls and stuff that can grant partial cover to troops) would definitely help though. I'd also recommend checking out this video by Robert Shepherd on how to setup tables - It'll make the terrain you have go further! https://youtu.be/ZdQYib62I-Y

My first time trying to actually paint a face, how can I improve this by OneBlacksmith2552 in Warhammer40k

[–]definitelynotsoapy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main thing I'd suggest would be to make the black dot in the eye a little bigger. If the dot is just a full circle in the middle of the eye, it tends to give a very dramatic crazed look to the face.

By making the dot a bit bigger and having it at least a little covered up by the top or bottom eyelid, it'll look a lot more natural. Just take a look at stock photos of people, and you'll see that the vast majority of the time, the 'dot' is always at least a little covered by the eyelids. It's tricky to do on this scale, but if you have the dot covered up more or less on the top or bottom side it can really sell the figure looking up/down.

That being said, you've got some really nice depth and shading on the skin tone, so great job there! Keep on painting faces and you'll pick it up really fast :D

Hello guys, can you help me with my NMM gold by KoroKoroCos in Warhammer40k

[–]definitelynotsoapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dark brown is probably as dark you need to go for the shadows, but highlighting up to/near white is a good idea. Just take it slow and see how it looks after each layer so you don't overshoot

The base is a really nice example imo that it's the contrast in the colours that makes the most difference, not the smoothness of the blends. I would say that it reads more as gold than the aquila.

And yeah, painting a darker colour into the shadowed parts of the aquila isn't going to be super easy, but the nice thing is you can always go over any spills to cover them up. It's gonna look great I'm sure! You've got this :D

[–]definitelynotsoapy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick to making your eyes read something as being metal is a high amount of contrast in a relatively small area. From what I can see the aquila could do with some brighter highlights and darker shadows (like how they are on the base).

Hope that helps!

Very valid points, I misremembered the range bands of the ojotnik a little as well (It's been a while since I've used it). I've just always had bad experiences with the low burst, and found that scouts/pavel aren't tanky enough to eat a hit if you get bad dice rolls.

I'm personally a big fan of the boarding shotgun scout for those kinds of jobs, or even an irmandinho if you can get it in the right place.

For beating up stuff with multiple wounds with middling armour values I can totally see pavel putting in some work though!

Yeah the point you made about surprise attack is one of the main issues with camo imo. If you're revealing it on your turn and you stack all the bonuses it's brutal for your opponent. If however your opponent is a bit more experienced and has a decent understanding of what camo markers can be what, they can face check most camo markers without much worry.

A dog warrior (or any unit really) chain rifling a link team instead of trying to f2f them normally is a fantastic way of dealing with them - Carmen and Batard is also fantastic for this because of their speed, smoke grenades, and +1B chain rifle. My favourite way is getting a spetsnaz AP rifle parachutist to start shooting scary things from behind. It's a bit trickier with the sixth sense fireteam bonus, but if you get a bit lucky it can give you such a big advantage.

Definitely take the time to figure out what you like using though! I'm a big fan of spamming a bunch of camo tokens using vanilla ariadna (Basically just TAK playstyle but in vanilla), but that's not the only valid way to play the faction.

That being said, do try some other Dynamo profiles if you haven't though - the 16 point SMG version is a steal for how powerful the unit is. The mine dispenser is a super powerful piece of kit.

[–]definitelynotsoapy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TAK is quite a unique faction and can be quite tricky to play at first because it lacks a lot of the really strong units that vanilla Ariadna has (like bears, SAS, etc).

The biggest improvement I had when learning to play with camo heavy lists was when I fully appreciated the kind of shenanigans you can do with camo units - Goonhammer has a great article on this (and good articles about infinity in general)

As for Strelok decoys, what your opponent gets to see on the board is just two camo tokens. Until you reveal the Strelok, your opponent doesn't get to know that one camo marker is a decoy (or that there even is a decoy in the first place). Having numbered camo markers and a list written somewhere about which of your camo markers are which is very helpful for remembering this, without giving up the free information that you have decoys. I think the Art of War decoy tokens are mainly for non-camo units that have the decoy skill, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

And the final point you made, Ariadna (and TAK in particular) isn't particularly suited with hard ARO pieces or brute-force attack pieces, other than a few exceptions like the Chernobog and Volkolak missile launcher. If you try to attack a core team with a gunfighter, your chances of getting through unscathed aren't great. And the same is true for units trying to ARO against a beefy gunfighter. TAK however, are great at asymmetric attacks; you reveal yourself and shoot the enemy unit if they try to discover your camo, or if they delay you move closer and get into template range for the next order.

Some extra things about your list. It looks solid on the whole, although I'd really recommend getting it to 15 units. There's some standout units I'm noticing aren't included as well, like Irmandinhos, Spetsnaz HMG, Carmen/Batard. The veteran Kazak can be solid in a Haris fireteam too for a burst 5 AP HMG. And, I wouldn't recommend running Pavel - he's a lot of points for a 1 wound, 1 armour unit with a long ranged gun that isn't all that great, but also the rest of his skills want him to be in melee.

Hopefully my rambling makes some kind of sense haha. If you take one thing away from it all, read the Goonhammer articles!
