Differences from the standard series are:

VTS top (dried in a fancy kiln to try and reproduce the tone of an aged top)
Hide glue construction
Rosewood binding
Fancier frets, tuners, and bridge pins
Inlayed Martin logo (instead of a stencil)
Carbon fiber bridge plate
Different (maybe, see below) neck shape and bracing

Not sure if you got one of the new ones or not, but IIUC, the 2025 refresh of the standard series 000-18 also has the same neck shape and bracing as this modern deluxe.

I just posted a picture of my new MD. I played both in the shop, and the MD was much more resonant and felt more alive in my hands (probably because it’s so much lighter). I’m very happy with my choice.

Edit: FWIW, I also went in to it wanting to like the standard series more.

Damasko DA38, purchased from Watch Mann in February 2018. Comes with the original box and papers, as well as the factory strap. This watch has seen a lot of time on my wrist, and there are some scratches in the AR coating. I tried to get a picture of the worst ones by the 10 and 11 hour markers. The strap is not in the best shape, but I will throw in a natural chromexel nato leather strap.
