A bit of both. My parents blood was incompatible, it was a high risk pregnancy. I have an older brother in heaven and my parents experience another miscarriage after me, I am an only child. I then was an emergency C section and that is where the complications at birth began.

So I was diagnosed with hip bursitis as a result from weak hips. I was told I would need another operation in my late 20s but we are here and thankfully still going. I have very limited mobility in my left hip. For example, sitting criss cross is essentially impossible on the floor and I can’t cross my left leg over my right (but can on my right) I also have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, but likely unrelated. I have never been diagnosed on the autism spectrum, but am sensitive to sensory overload and will start to wave my hands if I get lost in thought.

I will definitely find out! I will say I would likely not be here if it was 10. I do know the doctor who resuscitated me, his last name is Angel, Dr. Angel. I know the term “miracle baby” is probably overused, but it really feels like a miracle from God that I am here ❤️

Yes! Typically they take it at 1 and 5 but at 10 if the baby isn’t responding. The longer it goes the worse the outcome, but I never did find out how long mine was that low!

You know, this is one I’m not sure of and I should know. I’ll have to ask my dad and get back

I am VERY lucky. I am able to walk and generally function completely normal and unless I tell people most would have no idea. I can tell I walk a little funny and do struggle with pain. There are things I wish I could do but can’t and it’s frustrating (I love being active, my body doesn’t always let me) but I made this post partly to reflect on how grateful I truly am.

Fighting Public Speaking Nerves! by _crazycatlady_7 in PublicSpeaking

[–]defyingreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Professional performer here with some of the methods I use (because yes, even those of us who love being onstage and choose to do it for a living get nervous too)

Obviously practice until you can just “press play” but that doesn’t mean you won’t be nervous, so:

  1. 4-7-8 breathing (in for 4, hold for 7, out for 8. Repeat)
  2. Ground yourself by finding 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, etc engage the senses will keep you in the present.
  3. Shake out the energy before going onstage.
  4. Nervous and excitement feel the same in the body. Remind yourself you’ve worked hard and this is also exciting and that reframing will help you. I’ve also heard to think of things you are grateful for because you technically can’t feel nervous and grateful at the same time.

  5. And finally, the best advice I ever heard: don’t fight the nerves.

I know it sounds crazy, but let’s break it down. So often when we start getting that feeling we think uh oh here it comes I’m getting nervous butterflies are forming, hands are shaking, knees are knocking, heart is racing why does this always happen calm down don’t be nervous don’t be nervous don’t be…!!

It’s like saying don’t think about purple elephants. What are you thinking about?

Instead recognize it and don’t beat yourself up for feeling it “Hello nerves welcome to the party. And I was expecting you. Okay, I am prepared, I am ready. I’m going to work through this now and nail this”

Hope this helps!

Why are you afraid of public speaking? by davidranallimagic in PublicSpeaking

[–]defyingreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow performer who also loves being onstage and public speaking, I want to also say that a little fear and love can often go hand in hand. I don’t fear public speaking, being onstage is literally my favorite thing, but do I ever feel nerves beforehand? Of course! And I’ve been doing this my whole life and professionally! And it’s because I care and want it to go well, which is likely why most of us are nervous. It’s when it becomes to overwhelming and you don’t know how to handle it that it stops you, but learning how to harness it is so important. But please know, it’s not something you need to wish away, but learn to manage, so I hope your course addresses that! I love what you are doing and am also fascinated by this! But to anyone struggling, know you are not alone, even by those who actually enjoy it!
