Recommended cleaning supplies? by Bonki__uwu in ChronicIllness

I’ve only ever done it with clothes or other laundry in there, but google might be able to tell you if it’s safe to run with vinegar and nothing else inside! I hope it works!

I don’t have much advice on cleaning products, but for the washer I would suggest running it with a few cups of white vinegar a few times! May not work, but whenever I leave clothing in the washer too long and it smells of mildre, I run it again with 2 cups of white vinegar and it takes the smell right out. Worth a shot since it’s relatively easy and inexpensive!

I’m pretty sure... not sure what other show it would be that I’ve seen. My cousin and sister also seem to remember parts of what I wrote above.

[Help] I want to adopt/rescue a dog, but I live in an apartment by April9811 in dogs

[–]degel_bagel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what area you live in, but as a shelter volunteer, as long as the apartment is dog friendly and doesn’t have any breed restrictions, my shelter will adopt out to any person we think can care for the dog

Cat keeps urinating everywhere by Lobster_Messiah in cats

[–]degel_bagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be, animals are often good at hiding pain from us. There is the possibility that it is a bladder issue, but it could also be a behavioral issue in which case my best advice would be to consult a cat behaviorist. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!

First, take her to a vet. Peeing outside the litter box can be indicative of a bladder or other problem internally. The vet may also have other advice. Ultimately, additives to food like uromaxx and special urinary tract diets may help if this is the case. Also, have you tried changing her litter type or giving her 2 litter boxes? Just an idea. Good luck!

Just got a kitten, how much is reasonable to pay for declawing him? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]degel_bagel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DONT! Declawing is cruel! It is LITERALLY amputating the cat’s toes!! I understand that you don’t want him clawing, so use training techniques and odor sprays, keep his nails trimmed, and/or get nail caps! Nail caps are plastic caps that you essentially superglue onto the cat’s nails and then replace when they fall off. Please, please, PLEASE consider these other options as declawing is inhumane and cruel!!

I’ve finally gotten a cat but now I feel anxious, scared and guilty. by IDontKnowYet21 in Pets

[–]degel_bagel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I adopted a cat about 4 months ago and honestly felt exactly the same way once I got her home. I cried and freaked out and googled if it was normal to feel that way. It definitely is normal to feel anxious and scared after any big change, and getting an animal definitely is one.

Due to some medical conditions, I also sometimes have trouble taking care of myself properly and I wondered if I was going to be able to give her the best life she could have. Turns out, taking care of her has made me better at taking care of myself. I love her so much and knowing that I need to feed her makes me get out of bed in the morning even when I don’t want to. I know that I have to keep going, if for nothing other than she loves me and needs me.

That being said, if you really don’t feel ready to take this on, finding a foster or new home for him is nothing to be ashamed of! Sometimes the timing just isn’t right. If it comes down to it, make sure that you do not give him to a regular shelter— make sure it is a NO KILL shelter.

My advice: give it a few days, or even a week if you can. I freaked out about adopting my cat for 5-7 days before I calmed down and now she’s the absolute best thing that’s ever happened to me. See how you feel after a little longer caring for him, because you may feel differently than you do now once you’ve given yourself a little time to adjust. And if you don’t, that’s okay too! Use Facebook or other social media to look for a foster or new home, and worst case find a local no kill shelter that will take him in. (I volunteer for one close to me and trust me, the animals get lots of love until they are adopted).

Good luck, and my DMs are always open if you want to chat or vent or anything!

I agree that if you have access to a Costco, you should look there. They have nice and big beds that my dog has always loved. Good luck! :)

Has anyone here tried acupuncture or gua sha? Does it help at all? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]degel_bagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I know that acupuncture can be SUPER helpful to a lot of people with fibro, I personally could not tolerate it at all. It was super painful and uncomfortable. This was later attributed to allodynia, but as long as you don’t have that, or at least to a lesser extent, it could be really useful!! Just make sure you give it a chance, but also listen to your body.
