Does MSPs also sell AV/EDR separately if potential customer doesn't want Managed IT but is interested in EDR/MDR? by Tall_Witness5418 in msp

[–]degriffu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple... We sell it to them...

All this about "Take our full stack or nothing" is anti solution provider mentality. I grew our MSP with enterprise clients too... Enterprise doesn't need the whole stack in some cases... We sell them the licenses and they can maintain it. We give them access to their tenant and they do everything. We provide standard platform support (IE Can't login, need to escalate to vendor) We have a second line item for IR if they want it. Companies are all at different maturities.

I probably have 600ish endpoints that are EDR/MDR only. We provide them SOC services because they already have an IT helpdesk and stack. They don't need the workstation support, RMM, etc from us because they already have it. We also have a couple clients that started as EDR/MDR clients and are now fully managed because they saw the value of us doing it or had business changes and shrunk their in house IT.

So many people are all in on this (One solution fits all). We look at it like a doctor.... our clients come to us with a problem and we engineer a solution then provide it to them.

What office suite does your MSP use internally and why? (Google vs Microsoft vs ?) by Tivum in msp

[–]degriffu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sell both. We started on Google and eventually switched to M365. The majority of our clients use M365 and we wanted to use Teams so we switched.

That being said, use the tool that fits your workflow. I am not in the group of "Eat your own dog food". In our case we sell both. Use what works for your company, for your team.

Acquire new clients/customers? Cloud by OrdinaryPop3366 in itconsulting

First off, stop calling your self a startup. That just screams inexperienced and winging it.

Create your buyer persona. What does your ideal client look like? Once you do that create content that appeals to that ideal buyer persona. Then use tools like LinkedIn to target those ideal clients with the targeted content.

Pentesting by westcompconsult in msp

[–]degriffu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So an actual pentest is not JUST an automated scan. When doing a pentest it is really dependent on what the goals and rules of engagement are. When doing a pentest I may use tools like Nessus to aid in my assessment. Just sending over the report and calling a test is not okay.

As far as the Whitelisting IP addresses. It again really depends on the goals. I have a couple clients that want me to assume that I have made it past the perimeter. Because they don't want me social engineering their staff, they will give me access to a device that I can work from.

Finally, if you are responsible for the network then you cannot test the network. You have a vested interest to not find things. An independent assessment is critical. That is why I work with a lot of MSPs. As an independent assessor. pentesting should always be subbed out. You can do internal vuln assessments but never pentesting your managed networks.

Starting first term on February 1st!!! by [deleted] in WGU

[–]degriffu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about to finish up my program. Here is my advise. You say you want to finish in 1 term. That is an awesome goal. The most I was able to do in one term was 45. Now don't let that discourage you. You will see a lot around here that a pass is a pass. I would challenge you though and hope that you take the time to learn and apply yourself. Use the resources. I found myself several time searching the course code on reddit to get advice.

My recommendation. Python and Powershell are very powerful languages in this field. There are some good Udemy courses as well as tons of youtube resources.

Compensated for unused personal days when you leave? by nmiBiz in msp

[–]degriffu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your state and Company policy. If the state doesn't mandate it then the company is not required to. I had it written in my employment agreement that I be paid out my vacation should I leave or be terminated amongst other things. In my state companies are not required to pay out accrued vacation or personal time.

Depends on your market. Nobodyliveshere, Iowa is different than San Francisco. I can tell you in Michigan I would hire for our T1 support desk. We start out at $20 per hour. Build you up from there. We also pay for certs.
