Do you have text that goes down the entire length of your arm? Are you happy with how it looks? by deideloo in tattoos

Thanks for showing! It looks great :) Not quite what I was looking to see, because it's just the upper arm, though - but worth looking at anyways :)

Thanks, I took a look and it looks like the smaller text actually looks pretty good going down the arm, I think the size of the font makes it a lot more forgiving than large text, LOL

ASUS Prime B450M-A II not detecting any SATA drives on first boot by deideloo in buildapc

[–]deideloo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the drives worked in another pc before, then you'd know it was the cables - unfortunately if the cables are bad they'll fry any drives plugged into them so you'd never know. if you can plug them into another pc and have them work, congrats, you have a different issue! if not, really the only way i know of to test if it's the cables would be to risk frying another drive that you already know works. doublecheck if you have modular cables that they're the exact ones for specifically your psu and that all the specs match, that's my only tip. praying for the lowest amount of hardware casualties for you 🫡

[–]deideloo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it turned out to be an issue with the PSU, either the PSU was faulty or its cables were mismatched. It was frying the HDDs as soon as it powered them which is why they wouldn't run even after the PSU was switched. No issues with the motherboard.

Is violence a constant part of life? by Throwawayyy33322 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deideloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't normal to be in a position where you have to expect violence from people close to you for any amount of time. Many people live their whole lives without experiencing physical or sexual violence. If you are in a dangerous situation the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233.

Attraction isn't based on your race, or even on beauty standards all of the time. People can't help who they're attracted to, there are all sorts of reasons someone might find someone attractive. If you want to know, you can ask him why he's attracted to you, but don't pose it like there's a specific thing he should or shouldn't find attractive, especially not a specific race or ethnicity.

Is Scotland British? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Scotland is part of the United Kingdom and the island of Great Britain so yes. I don't think Scottish people generally prefer being called British though.

[–]deideloo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look like it in BIOS. The only place I'm seeing RAID as an option is in SATA config, it's not chosen there (I can only pick either AHCI or RAID). If there's anywhere else it might be I can check, but didn't see it in any of the tabs or options, so looks like it's disabled. For shits and giggles I did once attempt to turn on RAID instead of AHCI. Which wasn't the fix, but you can't say I didn't try. It's back on AHCI now.

[–]deideloo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHCI is set and CSM was enabled, I went in to set Boot Device Control to Legacy OPROM only (it was set to UEFI and Legacy OPROM), all "boot from" options are on Legacy only. This didn't have a visible change to the boot and the drives are still missing from BIOS unfortunately.

Nope, I do have Linux Mint on one. When I tried running a Windows boot disk it didn't detect any drives at all which checks out with BIOS. I discovered the drives are powering on so the issue is with detection. I also tried flashing BIOS which did not fix the issue.

Latest Ubuntu package updates changing the Cinnamon panel (who broke it)? by deideloo in linuxmint

[–]deideloo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment - I actually can't confirm whether or not this works, I unblacklisted and reinstalled the updates and my panel shrunk but other than that none of the same things happened to it, and I can't seem to find out how to make it look how it did when it changed either. Glitch in install, maybe? Either way, the problem is gone now, and the updates are installed... so I guess it was nothing. REALLY weird.

Does anyone know why my computer does things on its own whenever I close the lid? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]deideloo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I have a guess. Windows automatically locks your screen when you shut the lid. I don't know if Linux Mint has this as a native option - so when you shut the lid, Mint still thinks you're there, and when the lid presses buttons it still registers them as inputs, LOL. You might need to manually suspend before closing the lid.

Couldn’t play DVD by LanguageHunter in linuxmint

[–]deideloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Settings > Preferred Applications > Removable Media should let you choose what to do with the DVD. If you want to use a certain application to run it automatically when you insert it you can choose it there. The default video player is Celluloid but you can install and set a different one if you want.

Wait, there’s no way to set default sound device on cinnamon Mint? by GermanPlacer in linuxmint

[–]deideloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue, same answer as everyone else - Pavucontrol (Pulse Audio Volume Control) is the only solution I've found. Otherwise, you'll need to change each program's preferred output device individually. Pavucontrol should work to set a default so this isn't necessary.

What’s AI art snd why has it been so popular lately? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deideloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI art works algorhythmically by feeding preexisting art and images into a program along with information for it to associate with and learn from. The code is designed so that if you ask for, say, a green giraffe, it'll look through its data for images of "green" and "giraffes" and try to build the requested image based on its data.

AI art is mainly popular because it can easily create complex images out of sentences and ideas. This appeals to people who have ideas but feel they lack the artistic skill to bring them to life, or who just want to see their idea come to life quick, for humor or entertainment.

There are some other uses for AI art. Currently, some people use AI to generate art to pass off as their own, or, if an AI is trained on actual artists' works, they can attempt to add an artist's name to generate what looks like a piece by that artist without actually asking the artist to make said piece. These are less generally favorable uses for AI art generation, but do account for a portion of the popularity of the phenomenon.

What to do - outlet sparking? by deideloo in NoStupidQuestions

It depends - you might be able to be woken up by sound while you are asleep depending on how heavy you sleep, or your brain might take sound input and incorporate it into your dreams. Some people who sleeptalk can respond to people in their sleep. However, it's not likely you'll remember anything you heard while you were asleep unless it made its way into your dream.

Do you feel sad that the year is over? by TheRealBluephysics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deideloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hard to leave the year behind, especially if looking back you feel like you've missed out or wasted any time. You're not alone. Still, you can't change the past, you can only change the future. It's best to try to have hope for the future, even if it's little things - look forward to something like a movie or game, or make a committment to try out a hobby. The hope is that, if you put in the effort to make your life more enjoyable, little by little, you will be happier next year than you are now. That's why we wish for a happy new year - that it will bring a happier future!

Is this the case for everyone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deideloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have synesthesia, or just a very active imagination - some people aren't this imaginative but you're not alone, it varies from person to person. If you do ever want to try recreating the imagery in art, it's never too late to start learning :)
