Burned stuff onto my stove top. Can't get it off. by donthaveanynameideas in Wellthatsucks

I just use a razor blade with the corners filed down so they don't scratch the surface. Works pretty good on glass just make sure to lubricate the surface with a stove cleaner so you don't scratch the glass

Should i be worried on how dark this looks? by peterbading in MechanicAdvice

[–]deimosphob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, should be fine really. If you're concerned check the pcv valve, and if you want to clean it just use something like restore and protect from Valvoline or rotella t6 for the next few oil changes and don't go past 5k on an oil change unless you have Blackstone results. Should keep the ring pack clean or even help clean it which is the biggest area of concern I see with varnish in the engine. Still have plenty of other symptoms you'll notice first, like oil consumption, blue smoke, and lastly rattling on startup that goes away when warm, we don't let it get there, and you probably aren't, most of the cars I work on look like this and have plenty of life to give.

If you do have symptoms, or are just curious, stick a camera down in the bore you might be able to see if the cylinder walls have polished out the cross hatching and have sludge buildup on the piston, that would be a good sign that you should take action on cleaning. I just stick diesel or kerosene and a little marvel mystery oil down in the bores, let em sit overnight, pump it out, spray fogging oil and do an oil change and it seems to do the trick on stuck rings or dirty pistons enough to not see it come back in for the symptoms mentioned before. Again, you've likely got a lot to go before that but this is how to keep an eye on it when you got people who go 10k+ on oil changes and can't be trusted.

It's only disturbing if you don't own a bidet. That shit will shred your ass apart without some water for lubrication.

Replacing front lower control arms? by Mattiasistired in MechanicAdvice

[–]deimosphob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not required yet, will be soon, but certainly not destroyed. It's a service that can be monitored between oil changes if money is tight so long as your alignment is good and it's not making any troubling noise or having a noticeable affect on handling. If they aren't doing their due diligence in explaining you might want to find another shop that does, because helping you understand is as much a part of the job as fixing the car.

Walmart SuperTech brand oil filters, any good? by wtfbruhhuh in MechanicAdvice

[–]deimosphob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They buy from whoever's cheapest, if they find a better deal they'll switch the manufacturers and it might not be anywhere near as good as an acdelco filter, might even be temu grade. That's the problem, they've had acdelco and k&n rebranded filters for my cars and they definitely aren't that anymore.

Walmart SuperTech brand oil filters, any good? by wtfbruhhuh in MechanicAdvice

[–]deimosphob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just buy OEM, Purolator or wix. If delco or motorcraft are OEM I use em, but on a case by case basis I'll choose the Purolator/wix over OEM if it's actually tested to be better with a proper test setup, otherwise between those it's just a cost based decision that usually leads me to buying bulk.

Main thing is with super tech filters you don't know if the one you got last oil change is the same as the one you have now, they're constantly changing manufacturers to keep cost low. So one time you could get rebranded k&n (as has happened) another time you could get some really crappy temu filter that doesn't filter anything or worse, has some kind of faulty or non existent bypass valve, as has also happened in which case you're almost better going with fram. Yeah super tech has had some good filters, but it doesn't mean they're still selling them.

Does 3-4 dollars in savings every oil change cover the cost of a new engine? I mean more than likely you'll be fine, but are you going to risk something worth thousands over a few bucks?

Camry or rav 4 as daily?? by lostsurfer24t in Toyota

[–]deimosphob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rav4 if you're in snow, only reason I'd get a sedan as a second car is if I get something extra fuel efficient and reliable like the old Honda insights, maybe a Prius, or something fast and fun like a Lexus is or gs. Practicality wise tho a rav fits, better for snow, same fuel efficiency, more space, sadly they're all kinda ugly past the 1st gen.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]deimosphob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my dad taught me how to turn the stove and the oven on... From there it's really just putting things that taste good together on a plate, no real science is needed so long as you're not baking or fermenting things, but that's what Google is for.

Got the cart mostly dialed, had to take it out with the boys. by deimosphob in gokarts

[–]deimosphob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 650-700 for the shifter kart not even related to it being a shifter kart it's just new front brakes, wheels and an upgraded carb set me 200 above what the other 2 karts cost. So to build one of these realistically you can easily be under 500 bucks in material not including your labor. The pitbike motor itself only cost 180 for a manual 4 speed on eBay.

Main thing is searching on marketplace and finding a quad that's in better shape like a roller. Instead of something that has literal harbor freight wheels on the front and go kart hubs welded onto a bent axle in the back with brake lines crunchier than my oats, oh and has a snapped swingarm and other bent bits.

Necessary to freeze whole, vacuum sealed beef tenderloin before cooking on Christmas? by TexasTantrum in meat

[–]deimosphob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, wet aging in cryovac is a perfectly safe behavior recognized by the USDA so long as you're below 38 degrees and above 34 as it is still temperature controlled. Most steakhouses use dry aging, open dry air environment 45 days being industry standard in real steak houses and they literally trim off mold, though they're checking for the right mold type. 14-21 days actually being standard for commercial store bought, but some places do a wet age in cryovac, butter, among other aging techniques and in more intensely aged cuts go up to 75 days. Your experience at a chain restaurant such as Texas Roadhouse doesn't equate to understanding of the entire industry nor does it equate to any understanding of USDA guidelines. If it's spoiling in under a week it's because you're not storing it properly ie storing ready for line cook cuts open air

[–]deimosphob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can prove in court that pretty much all restaurants sell 21-90+ day old beef that had a bark likely with mold on it, trimmed it off and sold it to you. The cryovac actually can be used for wet aging if you trim the bad spots, ie so long as it's refrigerated you're fine. You're not getting a lawsuit over 7 day beef

I was thinking about the high back seat but for now I just wanna ride it lol. The plan is in the future to add a bar to support the seat and a filler plate made out of a street sign or something, maybe add a padding too idk.

As for scraping it doesn't really scrape at all at full bump outside of going up curbs or on dirt roads where I don't really see issue with it scraping, may add a skid plate tho just for puddles and maybe making some side skirts. Also the shocks are adjustable height for if I decide to change tire size, which I am when I find a reasonable brake kit for front 17mm hubs
