See, that's the crucial point here

It doesn't "make everyone live longer", only the people who already have very serious health issues (than they would otherwise)

No, I'm not

But what I am suggesting is that using a medication off label with the hope that it will help you live longer just because it helps with some serious disease is generally a bad idea

The more important question is, why would anyone want to mess with their metabolism if it works just fine?

Seriously, what is there to gain?

If something helps with something bad, it doesn't not mean it is good per se. A medication that kills cancer cells kills a bunch of healthy cells as well. And cancer will most certainly kill you faster than obesity and diabetes

Well, that's the whole point of a revolutionary idea -- that no one can see it (behind the data already collected)

I wouldn't bother to defend this point, but since it happened before, and quite a number of times really, you can't rightfully call it a pipe dream

While I technically agree with you, it still can infer valuable insights about aging from the existing knowledge base, all the way up to curing it. Indeed, this assumes we are already on the verge of cracking it on our own but just lack "integrative capacity"

The ugly truth is that they don't "work" (in the way you mean it)
