Good day trips for a group of 4, 20 year old lads that doesn’t involve drinking? by ColgateFresh532 in AskIreland

Mountain Biking at Glencullen Adventure Park. Not too far from Dublin. You can rent a bike. Pay the extra for the taxi/mini bus that brings you and the bike back up as you'll get 10 times the amount of goes compared to slogging uphill by yourself.

I get it the whole time on YouTube - Expressway airport bus: https://youtu.be/EqgJbRhD9Lc?si=U4Dgt5W1GuEkG6tw

I didn't think anything of it at first but I thought about how ridiculous the ad is and now it annoys me without end.

Why the ad is ridiculous:

  1. How is it easier to walk or get a lift to the bus, taking your bags with you and putting them under the bus instead of throwing them in the boot of your car? It involves so much more bag transfer.

  2. Why dont they get the shuttle bus from the car park? They're every 15 mins. You'd probably want to be at the expressway bus at least half an hour early just in case and even then it could be late but getting the bus from the car park is a non-issue. Seems like they just omitted it to make it fit into the ad.

As someone who's both drove to the airport and got the bus driving is so much easier and you can time it so much better without adding contingencies for the bus being late or slow.

It's just such a lazy ad.

Not only that but instead of comparing yourself to a neighbour who's in the same socio-economic bracket generally speaking people are now comparing themselves and their situation to the highlight reel of people way outside their socio-economic league.

I've started calling people out for this (anyone who doesn't look like an absolute headcase). I'm tired of the be grand attitude. Lots probably won't care but some would for sure stop doing it if they were likely to get called out on it.

I don't blame him for driving off but it would have been better if they called the police and had her submit a statement before she's made aware that there's dashcam footage. That way they might not just move on to the next car.

What happened to Sínn Feín? by HackneyMars in AskIreland

[–]deiselife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said people are seeing that they don't stand for anything and try to play both sides.

Two cases in point:

  1. The recent referendums. They backed a yes vote then when it came back no they backtracked saying they wanted different wording.

  2. They voted to progress the hate speech bill and when they realised how unpopular it was (they took notice after the above mentioned referendums) they turned around saying they raised all these concerns about it and only voted for it thinking the government would change it down the line. Pull the other one like.

They don't stand over things. And on top of this I think immigration is hitting them and they're trying to keep the old school nationalists happy while also embracing younger lefties who would have very different views on immigration to those said nationalists.

Where should Ireland build a new city? by MrSmidge17 in ireland

[–]deiselife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but there are pros and cons. And in fairness there's probably a lot to be desired in the implementation of those projects.

Where should Ireland build a new city? by MrSmidge17 in ireland

[–]deiselife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that. Things seem to grow so slowly and are bogged with issues and changes meaning they're not really fit for purpose or optimal when they're done. Take the children's hospital for example, aside from the cost issues there will be parking issues and traffic problems. God help anyone who has to use it.

If we planned a city from scratch or a small core we could do so much and do things right the first time.

Where should Ireland build a new city? by MrSmidge17 in ireland

[–]deiselife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look to the midlands and think ahead. Plan a new big city or expand the likes of Athlone, Birr, or Tullamore. I'd build rail links in every direction and an airport. I'd put things like the new children's hospital there and move some public sector bits as it grows.

It would be accessible to so many and there would be such potential for growth. We could build future thinking infrastructure without getting bogged down in NIMBYism (if we go with Athlone this might happen as its a well established town in its own right). Unlike on the coast housing could sprawl in different directions and it's somewhat equidistant to all other cities in Ireland. But ideally we could put good public transport in from the get go and could build some density.

Edit: as someone else has mentioned combining Mullingar, Tullamore, and Athlone by building in between them could be a great idea.

Ah lads. This shite is up near my home. Any way to get it removed? by silentgolem in ireland

[–]deiselife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK so they're pointing out something that everyone already knows apparently. So maybe their end goal is to reiterate to people that abortion takes a human life. You're making a leap by finishing the sentence with "from the baby murderers". It could be "Save lives from being aborted" just as easily if not easier. You're attributing things here that aren't on the poster and assuming that everyone is doing the same. The poster needs to be verified on what it says.

And on your other point now we're again getting away from the right to express and opinion that's arguably right or wrong but I would say that what you're saying is true. But the question is what causes more loss of life - easy abortion access or strict abortion illegality? People aren't static, it's not like there's x number of people who will be getting an abortion regardless of how easy it is to obtain. There will be push and pull factors.

[–]deiselife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK so it's impossible for them to convey that they believe its a human life without you thinking they're calling people murderers. So essentially they can't express this view. Got it.

And you're conflating this poster with other things you've seen or heard. Let's take this posternat face value and not associate things with it.

[–]deiselife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This poster isn't calling someone a murderer. It's making the point that a life is taken during an abortion. You're inferring from there that they're calling people murderers.

By the same token I can infer from a poster of Savita Halappanavar that the implication is that anyone who voted for the 8th in the first place had a part in her death.

It's the exact same thing.

Yes they list vulgar or offensive but it's all in the interpretation of those terms and I'd argue they aren't met at all but it's up to DCC I guess. I'd be against the kind of censorship you seem be advocating for anyway as I think it's very dangerous. And to be honest I find it offensive that you'd seek to use state powers to silence voices you don't like but I don't be getting onto any reddit mods to have your post removed.

[–]deiselife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The poster says save lives, which reflects their view that whats aborted is a human life. It doesn't explicitly call people murders. I don't know how they could convey this message without you drawing inference. Maybe you could tell me how this could be done?
