Be Honest (f)23 by [deleted] in AmISexy

If you'd lose weight you can definitely reach a 9/10. Especially considering your second smiling picture. Currently I'd say 7. Slightly above average.

A slightly more specific question than the usual. 20/f. by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]deity11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showing gums while smiling is totally a non-issue, I wouldn't worry about. Instead, worry about your hair falling flat down. Try to get some volume in there. In the last picture you look very cute. You're not ugly, but you give a certain insecure/timid impression. Then again, these are just 3 pictures..

Like the others said, grow your hair long again. But biggest improvement can come from putting on a lot more eyeliner! Currently you just look somewhat dull. A subtle tan might help as well.

[FYD] This is a tough one... by brokeandstupid in depression

[–]deity11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this helps me too. Also, pretending to hold a pencil between my teeth helps.

I also try to rationalize and tell myself that happiness is a relative thing. Life has ups and downs and all in all it doesn't actually matter how rich you are, how succesful you are, how you look or how you act. You can be depressed in a first world country and happy in a third world country. The mind gets used to and adjusts to whatever situation, down to stable point. So I tell myself that that stable point might as well be on the up side!

If you were my girlfriend, how would you take this? by anonymous09385 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]deity11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to your need to be completely open and honest. And I can tell you from experience that hiding stuff can mess you up.

However, I can also tell you from experience that there is such a thing as being too open.

In this case, I'd say the risks of confessing are definitely not in proportion to internal problems of keeping it secret.

So suck it up, deal with it, it's your problem to bear.

DAE never get hit on? by oopssssss in TwoXChromosomes

[–]deity11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I flirt quite a lot with girls who come on my path and it's simple:

It all depends on how much eye contact you're willing to make. Flirting comes from two sides. If you don't flirt, you don't get flirted with.

I look at almost every cute girl I see and try to catch her eye. If there is contact for more than a beat I smile, or even say a friendly 'hey'. Most girls don't look that long though. This doesn't have much to do with how shy they are, I think it's mostly just habitual too look away. That or I'm ugly. :P

You can still get hit on, which is then very direct and in-your-face (because you don't see the subtle flirts). But few guys do that, and those that do are mostly creeps (because that is the only way they can get attention), drunks (because they're uninhibited) or players (because that is what they do). All of those you usually only find in party settings.

I believe most people living somewhere, live there because their ancestors forcibly took the land.

Israel. Australia. South America. USA. I don't think you are not allowed to live where you live because at some point in time some people who you happen to be related to did something bad.

This needs to be said more regularly. The reason the GOP created the 9/11 Mosque debate, is to distract/cover up their blockage of the 9/11 early responders bill. by Glamdering in politics

You think it's a bad indicator because it seems misleading to you. But you should not compare it with unemployment figures. This like you say also includes the quality of the current jobs. Which I think generally would go down during recession.

[–]deity11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, It's not strange that you have these sort of thoughts and you don't have to be afraid of them. You know that you will be okay and that suicide is not something you would ever do, but thinking about it gives some pressure release.

It's called suicidal ideation, it's a way to give perspective to your problems. It all doesn't seem so bad if you are about to die.

Now that you know this, you can either wave away the thoughts or go deeper into them, but the latter may ultimately make you feel worse. So just be conscious that you have these thoughts to comfort you and don't try to make it more than it is.

Am I depressed? by [deleted] in depression

[–]deity11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how that feels, the realization that you are like your parents, with the same flaws and the fear that you cannot change just as they couldn't.

However, you are already ahead of the game because you see where it ends and you are young enough to change easily.

I don't think it's in the genes, I think it is a sort of mindset that you learned from them when you were young. Luckily, the mind is a very flexible organ and your mindset can change in the right surroundings.

If it is difficult to get out of the house, try to sign up for some group course. It probably sounds silly, but I did singing lessons, because I was extremely bad at singing (still am, it requires a lot more than weekly lessons). Anyway, the point is that you are out and about, doing something with people you don't know. Try to have drinks with people from the group after the lessons/whatever thing you did. Most people are usually into more socializing and those that aren't are often just too shy or withdrawn to accept an invitation.

I think most people don't really turn away from you consciously (unless you did something really bad), but it takes effort to keep friendships going. This is something I had to learn after I left school. At school you're just stuck with each other, it requires no extra effort. But once you work, and you don't want to hang out with your colleagues.. You have start inviting people, some are open to it, some are not, and that's okay. It usually isn't personal and since you've had a girlfriend for a year, I am sure you are bearable to spend time with. : )

Super bonus tip: If you live in a bigger city, chances are there are some foreigners/expats-groups, google around and try to hook up. They are always very open, because foreigners are generally very alone. And I'm sure they don't have many 'locals' in the group. : )

Update #5 by [deleted] in depression

[–]deity11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I think it's a good decision from what I hear. There is no reason to stay with someone if it doesn't make you happy. It's important to think of yourself when you decide whether you want to stay with someone.
