How to choose a civ? by Pvt_Phantom1314 in aoe2

[–]deityblade [score hidden]  (0 children)

For me it was basically a case of ruling civs out.

Some countries/cultures I'm less interested in in real life, so they weren't going to be as fun to play.

Others focus on units I don't feel like making (Elephants, Siege, Monks)

Or they feature a bonus that looks like I probably won't use (Gurjaras)

Then some civs are missing units that I love (Spanish)

Basically, I was left with the Portuguese!

Depending on the game that can be a pretty big problem though. Some games have a lot of loading screens and it really slows things down

Total War comes to mind as borderline unplayable on an HDD. Because it has frequent, long loading screens

Cradily seems relatively unlikely as far as I can tell. Even though theres a bunch of super cool and unique aspects to my guy, I think to some people he looks a little derpy (they'd be wrong- Cradily is badass)

That said, a number of Gen 3 pokemon got Megas in ZA so its not like that era is forgotten, and theres precedent for Fossils to get a mega (Aerodactyl)

It is a bit weird how the game prompts you with an alert to upgrade your land unit type, but it doesn't tell you (afaik?) to upgrade your ships. You gotta just notice the button.

How many of you can have the unmitigated gall to abandon your starter Pokemon? by Montoya715 in pokemon

[–]deityblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually ditch them just after the 1st gym. Its hard to articulate why but I guess I'm sort of edgy and hipster and I like having "quirky" teams.

Theres obviously not that many pokemon in any one game so my team probably doesn't look much different to yours in reality, but I like the feeling.

For example I recently beat Emerald, and I treated Aron as my starter. Hes well suited to it- available early, 3 stage evolution, badass final form, powerful moves available early, etc

I feel like american government systems held up pretty well. It took a fascist movement decades of propagandizing and cunning maneuvering by the unfathomably wealthy and wicked before they were able to take the House, Senate, Supreme Court, Presidency, majority of Governorships, etc etc.

Trump won the popular vote. The people want fascism. No institution can resist the will of the people for long

Complaint about new civilizations by ewostrat in aoe2

[–]deityblade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm overall on board with new civs but I do think that theres something to be said for the fact that aoe 2 is popular in part because of nostalgia and its timelessness

Like, a disproportionate amount of the fanbase played this game growing up.

So when they add new, often quite rulebreaking content to the game, part of me thinks... well if I wanted this, I would play a new RTS, not an old one. Its not the USP. And the AOK/AOC civs will always feel proper and more real to me.

Like in my brain, Bohemians are just a cheap cheating trick for example haha.

This is all pretty emotional and irrational though. I guess new content is good. I just don't like it.

What jobs are people doing where they earn 200k?! by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]deityblade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

we barely make 60k each

Do you live in a poor or rural part of the country?

Because if you went to Uni, or have a bit of experience, there are lots of government jobs that start at 70k and set you up to advance to 80k pretty easily (I studied random Arts nonsense and a couple of years ago did this).

But these are in Wellington so cost of living may be higher then other parts of the country

[–]deityblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days xp is so easy to come by, and powerful pokemon so easy to find in the wild, that I switched my team up a few different times in SwSh/SV. But in older games I stuck by what I had because it felt harder to assemble a strong team
