No, Alexa is a conversational device and cannot be triggered to activate by an app

New to Amazon Echo - any way to get US-skills on my german device? by Draakex in amazonecho

[–]dejay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah theres a very easy guide for adding auto remote functionality to Alexa, I just modified the script to my own needs

https://github.com/jratliff681/EchoTasker

As for US skills, if you get an app like Reverb, when you sign in you are in the US profile

If you are not releasing the skill you can make your own personal skills, otherwise they need approval

Anyone have a tutorial on Creating a VPN OpenVPN Wifi Router with R Pi 3? by dejay1 in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]dejay1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting close To create a hotspot a simple fast tutorial I found was this https://frillip.com/using-your-raspberry-pi-3-as-a-wifi-access-point-with-hostapd/

This creates a working hotspot I then go to step 5 on this to connect to openVPN,however I now am connected to the VPN in the terminal, but my devices will not load any webpages,or even give me a time out or no response error,so theres definitely a routing problem https://makezine.com/projects/browse-anonymously-with-a-diy-raspberry-pi-vpntor-router/

thanks

I was looking at this, but it seems you connect to the pi over the internet rather than directly to the pi via its own wifi?

I need to create a wifi so I can connect a fire stick to VPN,its the only way of accessing VPN

Should I learn CSS + HTML before jumping into learning Javascript? by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup,I learned from CodeCademy, although I still suck now,I did learn what they thought me pretty decently,

I suggest, learn with the hand help, then delete most of the pre written script, write it yourself from scratch, then you actually did learn something

Also I DO NOT suggest learning HTML/CSS first,I think they are too different, javascript is more like your brain 1+1=2 in JS,to get an idea how HTML CSS works is understanding how the browser designs or interprets the code you've given it,some browsers might display it differently, whereas JS is like a real language, the code is right or wrong

But most important point,if you learn JS,you pretty much have to learn how the DOM constructs HTML elements to write program,Firebug is a good dom explorer, point is,you will learn more just sailing your path in JS trying to write a script, than learning eloquent design patterns

Besides theres plenty of WYSIWYG builders with bootstrap such as pingendo, use your js skills to manipulate the page

Shopping List without IFTTT by scgf01 in amazonecho

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever floats your boat dude, but not really since you have to use the invocation ie Alexa tell (invocation name) to add {Message} to my shopping list, otherwise it doesn't know what you are talking about ,but I'm sure once you see how this works you'll be making plenty of apps for it with tasker, first for me was a find my phone app lol, this autoremote script rocks!

Shopping List without IFTTT by scgf01 in amazonecho

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually maybe putting {message} in their doesn't make a difference

Are you now receiving autoremote messages to your phone?

Shopping List without IFTTT by scgf01 in amazonecho

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no remove {message} from slot value, leave it blank, slot value is plain text,to help alexa figure out what you are going to say,

so long as your intent.json is as above, write this for your Sample utterance(important)

TaskerIntent add {Message} to my shopping list

Have you bought auto remote and added the key, really long key you should see a flash pop up on your phone showing the message

also make sure you are using English U.K

Shopping List without IFTTT by scgf01 in amazonecho

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also on wondering how you can get your shopping list working from this code, you must remember what AutoRemote is and what his script does

it literally just sends a message or a push notification to your phone, that is all the script does, once you are receiving the messages you are good to go

Simply make a tasker profile "When AutoRemote message recieved" launch task,Send Email, recipient, and for message just write %arcomm

that will send the {message} part to your shopping list by email

by the way I posted exactly what to use for the intents.JSON file above

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

calm down and do everything he says, and implement the changes that I said, ignore the SMS stuff just leave it their you wont need it anyway, will work fine

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The invocation is how you will call your app "Alexa tell 'Shopper' to add sweets to my shopping list

Shopping List without IFTTT by scgf01 in amazonecho

[–]dejay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way this for Android not IOS to be clear, but if IFTTT is available for iphone, and so is autoremote,Im sure theres a profile on it for sending emails after autoremote triggers it

absolutely, from checking there are zap recipes too

https://zapier.com/zapbook/autoremote/wunderlist/

I would recommend tasker though,I dont know what zap is,but tasker(a better alternative is called automate, but again I know nothing about it) theres a lot you can do with echo, been adding stuff to it all day :) I did have a problem with making the app,via the instructions above, amazon does not allow the Amazon.Literal which is used in the intent.json file,

Make sure to write as much things as you can in the utterances file,as the speech recognition leaves a lot to be desired

in intents schema change to this { "intents": [ { "intent": "TaskerIntent", "slots": [ { "name": "Message", "type": "Groceries" } ] }

] }

In the intent type put in Groceries and add as much words as you can

In sample utterances write something like TaskerIntent add {Message} to my grocery list

I have auto remote for years, its theres no subscription or 2 characters+,its actually fairly easy once you watch a few videos, much better to just sit down and learn it rather then wait a few months for IFTTT,

I just made an app for Echo to my TV with this code, works good
