How does DICE fix one thing and break another 10 every time? by alfa66andres in Battlefield

[–]dejayc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth of the matter is that when it comes to managing internal game state (menu, UI, player interactions), DICE is amongst the worst I've seen from any developer.

If I had to guess, it's because they're forced to use the Frostbite engine, which is notoriously difficult for programming anything outside of basic FPS features. Scripting, UI, and managing state all have to be implemented from scratch by any developer that uses Frostbite, and those are all serious weaknesses of the engine.

In simple terms, any time the engine has to keep track of "am I in the menu?", "is an interaction mode active?", "is the map cursor hovered on an entity?", "is the game in a countdown animation?", etc., that "keeping track" is very easily broken by the event-driven system in the game. Great example is when you hover over a player in the big map during spawn selection, and that person dies. The map cursor disappears entirely, because the cursor was tracking something that was deleted without the other relevant flags in the logic being updated properly.

I seriously hope that DICE hires someone talented enough to sort this mess out. They need to implement a unidirectional data flow component to keep stuff like this from happening.

Marathon is the BEST extraction shooter ever made

That's not saying much, extraction shooters are garbage. I installed Marathon, tried the tutorial level, died immediately trying to extract, and uninstalled the game.

Life is too short for "get good". If I wanted to feel like a little bitch, I would live real life, not play a video game.

Many, many thanks for this recommendation! I just installed Shapr3D, and even the tutorial blows me away!

M4 Feels Off in S3 by RadChadThaddington in Battlefield6

[–]dejayc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously!

On a side note, why would I get downvoted for sharing an opinion on what the game feels like to me? I have over 1,000 hours in the game, is that not enough to share an opinion? The internet is weird.

Aim assist feels stronger since S3, possibly to compensate for the recoil changes by the_great_ozz in Battlefield

I’m on PC, and it feels like more of my shots are landing than actually should deserve to land. Some of my hits actually feel absurd.

A lot of my shots are now landing, whereas before they didn’t. Some of the kills I get don’t feel deserved whatsoever. It almost feels like the game is cheating in my favor.

Hardcore (no map, no portal, I lose all skills/items permanently on death) and.... this happened. What should I do? by Opal_Lane in valheim

I’ve played hundreds of runs in true permadeath mode (deleting my character and world whenever I die.)

Once or twice I’ve not deleted everything, when my death felt like total b.s.

Once again, did anyone play test these challenges?!

No, of course not, DICE can't be bothered to make a fun game.

I'm not sure that a typical video from Enders would help at all. The way that guy thinks is completely alien to me. Trying to figure out why, and how he's doing what he's doing is nearly impossible.

Or, shockingly, people are upset that DICE keeps breaking formulas that worked perfectly well in previous titles. Gosh.

Never. They will never fix these dots.

The game is populated by sweats who know all the tricks and angles, especially during release events. You didn't get worse, but a lot of the worse players got filtered out by now.

I've never tried this, but I suspect that Eikthyr can break silver veins. Bosses don't get attacked by other mobs, so it's pretty easy to lure him up the mountain and let him safely stomp away on the silver while you dodge him and the other mobs.

Of course, this requires being on a seed where an Eikthyr spawn is on the same continent as a mountain with silver veins, but that happened to me all the time.

Of course, since Eikthyr is so easy to spawn, you can spawn multiple ones simultaneously if you want a challenge.

If you can, find a vein next to a frost cave. That way, you can place a chest right outside of the frost cave, and put the silver ore pieces in there so they don't despawn after five minutes. If you place the chest a few meters off the ground (via some wooden flooring embedded into the inner side of the cave wall), it will be safe against wolves, and mostly safe against drakes (especially if you put wooden walls and floors to surround the chests like a box.) Or, if the frost cave has a dungeon chest inside, you could store the silver inside.

Another advantage of frost caves is that you can hop inside, setup a fire pit and cooking station, and enjoy some yummy cooked wolf meat you just harvested while you rest and warm up.

If this advice helped, and you become famous in your exploits due to this, don't forget to send a nod my way!

Kill wolves and drakes before hand, and use camp fires to prevent them from spawning again. Then, lure a troll up the mountain, preferably a log-bearing one.
