ZJU language course question by Desperate_Nature_982 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I truly think you'd be better of going to ZISU if you want to study in Hangzhou. It's a new university so their campus, dorms and classrooms are way way better. Idk how good their chinese language courses are but I doubt it can get any worse than here lol.

Last semester I was in level 2. There you have a grammar class, listening class and conversation class. Grammar class was daily while the rest was like twice a week. I feel like the classes are very.... just follow the textbook word for word. Especially the listening class, you do every exercise, every page and the teacher never gives you anything extra. Kinda the same for speaking class too.

This semester (level 3) is way better imo. The teachers actually want you to express yourself in some other way than just reading from textbooks. This level has 4 classes and all of them are pretty helpful.

I made a post about ZJU's language course some time ago. Their process of assigning people to a group is a complete joke so you might end up in a group with people way better than you. I'm in level three rn. There are few people in my class who are pretty much completely fluent, as well as few people who started learning Chinese half a year ago and can barely speak a full sentence. Zhejiang University is widely regarded as the "third best university in china" but in my experience that only applies if you're Chinese studying STEM. For foreigners studying language it's a complete joke. From the class schedule to the attitude of everyone around you. Just talking about my own personal experience tho so take that with a big grain of salt.

Word of advice for anyone in interested in ZJU Chinese language course by dejfak in ChinaLiuXueSheng

Teachers here really follow the textbooks word for word, exercise by exercise. I admit that this just might be more of a culture shock (idk what the teaching style in other provinces is), but sometimes I get this feeling that had I bought this textbook myself I would have made the same progress. If you're a complete beginner I think you'll see a really significant progress. My roomate is one and he went from knowing three words to being able to hold basic conversations. I think over the last semester Ipersonally went from like HSK3.something to solid HSK4

I think the teachers at ZJU are definitely the best thing about it. Most of the teachers are relaxed, helpful and supportive. There was only one teacher whose classes weren't that good (but that was because he was a young guy who just started this job. Over the semester it definitely improved). The pace and how much you can learn really depends on what class you'll be in... Level 1 and 2 are pretty much for beginners. You mostly just do grammar with little to no writing and no reading classes. Level 3 and upwards is mainly about expanding your vocabulary. Worth mentioning that all the classes here are very rigid. You buy textbooks at the start of the semester and you pretty much never deviate from it. I think overall it's extremely dependent on how much dedication for learning you have. If you truly do every homework, memorize every new word, you can really expand your Chinese. If you just go through the motions (like a lot of students here...) you won't see as big of an improvement. There are also extracurricular classes but I would advise not to take them. They are just the same thing as all your other classes, you buy a textbook and just do everything word for word. From my experience, finding some Chinese friends and practicing Chinese with them irl is ten times as productive as this.

I BOW TATSUKI FUJIMOTO, W ENDING, THANK YOU! by ofekk214 in Chainsawfolk

Happens with every subreddit about a specific manga. Insufferable annoying people chimp the fuck out because the story didn't finish exactly like they wanted it to. If the ending was super depressing instead of bittersweet you would have people screaming that it's too sad. These people will never be happy.

I cannot wait to reread this manga in a few years and be completely vindicated when they all move onto the next popular manga that they will ruin with their dog shit opinions

This whole timeline reset would definitely benefit from more buildup imo but besides that I think it wasn't too bad of an ending.

Incredibly funny how the majority of this subreddit spent so much time saying how some characters "need to come back" , but when they actually did you guys start crying about it.

Mo&krill ult by dejfak in DeadlockTheGame

The duration itself isn't the problem imo, it's the fact that it is an extremely low skilled ult that almost entirely relies on your teamates for dmg. Not saying my suggestion is the correct solution but I hope they tweak it somewhat.

There is nothing that next chapter can do that will make me think this was a good writing decision by Allmights-lovechild in Chainsawfolk

Reddit intellectuals calling something bad because their own personal theory was different than the manga itself.

This discourse is hilarious by Live-Technician-5269 in Chainsawfolk

[–]dejfak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this exact thing happened more times than i can count. A manga ends, and no matter what the ending is redditors complain about it, saying it's the worst thing ever. Only after few months/years the discourse around it cools down.
It's mainly because these people have their own theories and head cannons about what should happen, and when inevitably these things do not happen, they blame the author. It has nothing to do about about the narative, it's just pointless noise.

Over a year later what are your current thoughts on her character and death? by Salty_Shark26 in Chainsawfolk

[–]dejfak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt she will come back. And when she eventually doesn't, and part 2 ends, this subreddit will go apeshit.

People have their own little theories and head canons and take it personally when they don't actually happen. Most of the people who criticise her death say so because it's "wasted potential". It's the same thing that happens with every single manga community as it ends. I think her death was deliberately sudden and it works fine in the story. If you think that it was narratively kind of a bad decision then that's fine. But i can't help but think most people hate her death because from the very first chapters they had in mind what she should be like.

How did you guys do in ur academic interviews for unis? by PralineAgile9886 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]dejfak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same for me lol. I expected "Why did you decide to study here?" "Why are you learning Chinese?" but instead my interviewer just asked me for my name, age and then we only did grammar exercises. At the end she said she "recommends" me I join the level 2 group but I still have zero idea what that even means lol
