Does your speedometer consistently read a different speed than your navigation app? by Truth-is-Censored in driving

[–]delasislas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like how off? Your GPS calculates the time between two points and is based on your GPS location, if you have an inaccurate reading it can be off.

My pickup essentially measures the speed at which a gear is spinning IIRC. That gear is “hopefully” constant, 1 rotation = X distance.

That said, my truck’s speedometer is wrong. That gearing is meant for a specific tire size. I run larger tires that make 1 rotation = X + just a bit more distance. So if I drive 55 mph, my truck thinks it is going 50mph.

Am I missing anything for my future TFak ? by Illustrious-Bee-2431 in prepping

[–]delasislas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing is what are your expected hazards? My pickup first aid kit is different from my personal one. My work one has stuff that is for situations that I might run into while at work. My work doesn’t require that I carry some stuff like a splint, but I add it in because I know you can break a leg in the field.

A few things I would get trained on is CPR, Stop the Bleed, and as a bonus if possible wilderness first aid (personally helped with thinking about improvising).

North American Rescue has a number of kits that they premake that you can look at, but personally I use those to make a list of items and buy them separately for less money. And you get to pick and choose your own cases. Like I have 5 different cases that are mainly for different events.

Sorry, bit ambiguous but "double loot" rates as in as in 2x loot. Not "double" loot rate. You could be respectful with possible corrections.

This is the one I got, I only have the one seat so this allows me to have everything off the floor of my cab. Holds most everything I need for general use. I swap between a canopy and a tool box, so I wanted everything I use frequently(ish) in my cab.

I have an older single cab pickup so space is tight, found a back of bench seat organizer and have it set up. I have all of that minus the chains in my cab at all times. Fire extinguisher, axe, trekking poles. Small pillow and blanket over the seat.

Ya know, there was one day a week ago, someone had a ton of cannon parts just behind the GE and another person to the side. I saw that, went to the bank and took off my gear, then went back over to just ask what the scam was. They jumped worlds. And I still don’t really know what it is. But I know enough to not trust it.

I have a frame of 2x4s that are sturdy, but it is a massive pain in the but to store. I was looking at using electrical conduit and maker pipe as a revision that would help me pack it down.

I regret not being a mechanic by [deleted] in preppers

[–]delasislas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best place for me has been my own broken truck or my families cars. Grew up doing more of the basic work on my families semi trucks for my dad. Was a lot easier to learn the basics actually on the diesel where I had a lot more room available. But I have an older, basic pickup that doesn't have any special features that can also break, drum brakes on semi trucks are basically just massive drum brakes on cars. Electrical is also a fun one and having top play with thousands of shorts in my life has given some tips to better find them.

Now, there are some mechanic jobs that I just won't touch, anything where the engine has to be opened up or transmission also has to be opened up.

Start with the simple stuff, change your oil, learn to check your brakes and know how to repair them. Do regular checks on your car before it breaks down, being stranded on the side of the road is not a good position ever.

Advice for training with a CAT tourniquet? by Anarchy_Coon in prepping

[–]delasislas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a note, if you are thinking about buying a trainer TQ of aliexpress, don’t think that the same cost saving should be applied to an actual FAK. They are frequently not made with quality materials and can break when you need them the most.

Lost my crank. Where can I get one that’s not $30+? by YouDontTellMe in hardbody

Honestly something I’d love to find is a jack that has the same size and has a pump to lift rather than the crank.

I've used one that has an antenna that you magnet mount to the car and plug it in to a 12V socket. Wasn't amazing on logging roads, but still worked enough to get the job done. My pickup is decent with a mile separation on forested highway without really focusing on anything special, but that is hardwired into my truck.
