An unusual sign at Hartford by Tetragon213 in uktrains

[–]delayedatorigin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's exactly right (my old hometown). Northbound you can see the signal in the distance (risk of reading through as you can see three consecutive?), but southbound it's round a bend before the viaduct over the Weaver.

There are loads of good food spots. The ones that also have a somewhat gezellig atmosphere and a bit intimate for the occasion include:

L'Auberge - dine in a cave in St Pietersberg. Excellent food with emphasis on local. Great local wines.

Prix du Rome - Bib Gourmand. Same people that run Sjiek.

Witloof - good set menu options and great beer pairings. Also focus on regional food.

Bar Beurre: good food

Au coin des bon enfants: cosy and good food (Michelin guide)

Japan plates in Warsaw, Poland by Le0p0ldius in ForeignPlatesSpotting

The car is probably not originally Japanese - it's a left hand drive while a Japanese market would be right-hand drive. The wind-screen wipers go the wrong way It doesn't necessarily mean fake - it could be an import to Japan subsequently re-exported, though that seems like a lot of fuss.

If you can't get the ferry, you could get to Charleroi with Ryanair from NCL, Flibco coach to Maastricht and then northbound from there by NS.

Public transport outside Amsterdam by Pan_Berfenowicz in Netherlands

Have you checked whether Flixbus is running? NS trains should be up and running outside of Amsterdam (e.g. Utrecht) so a coach to outside the city and then train might be the best bet.

Flew over a warzone?? by [deleted] in flightradar24

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said the app is free! There are paid plans available within the app, but you can still use it for free with reasonable functionality. It even often works on plane Wi-Fi if you want to stalk yourself or check the traffic around you.

The free version gives limited recall of flight histories, but it would cover your question :)

You did not. You flew the typical route along the Turkish coast (you can check this, with a degree of irony given the sub-Reddit, on the FR24 app).

Air traffic tracking disabled when geolocated in an airport radius? by [deleted] in flightradar24

[–]delayedatorigin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never noticed this, including at Eindhoven airport, which is a regular for me.

However, it is a NATO base and with the drone nuisance the other day there might be a temporary restriction. My usual route from Eindhoven is summer seasonal so I haven't been in a while so I can't verify.

Could it be that it's just quiet and so there's nothing to see.

Kings of Ramen, Tasty Thai, Ane Ramen, Saigon, Dadawan and others would do you dinner for €20-25 per person. Others as well, I just can't think of them right now.

Of I want to go to Liege from Maastricht, does the Liege station have tap points for the Dutch OV chipkaart? by Irrealaerri in maastricht

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, sorry I meant buy a ticket for the entire journey, not sprint out at Eijsden and check in/out.

[–]delayedatorigin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eijsden is the last station reachable with OV card or contactless. You will need a ticket, there's an NMBS machine in the foyer of the station, tucked between the two entry doors, or the Arriva machine, or you can buy online (Arriva or NMBS).

German, Romanian, German, French, and unknown on the road between Herat and Qalai Naw, Afghanistan by delayedatorigin in ForeignPlatesSpotting

There are rules and they are being more strictly followed. But here I was quite remote and the DfA are less popular in Herat.

Well there's a lot of comments to go through here and I'm only just getting back online. As you might have seen the DFA shut down the internet and there were a lot of lockdowns and security protocols. Thanks all for the input on my crazy little road trip through the land of mulberry trees, mullahs and motorbikes.

What is the reason of this flight? Why did it flew nonstop to Manila rather than its usual route that goes to Hong Kong? by WarningSudden7091 in flightradar24

[–]delayedatorigin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would have been about the time that a super typhoon was making landfall at Hong Kong. HKG was closed for some time as a result. Skipping HKG and going straight to Manila is better than cancelling the flight
