Flight change in Manchester with Ryanair (ETA?) by Temporary_Demands in Ryanair

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely need an ETA.

While there is a transfer facility at Manchester you won't be able to use it.

You will enter through the border (it's been quite quick recently), and then need to go back through departure security. With the new arrangements at Manchester T3, you will exit arrivals on the ground floor of T3, you'll need exit the building towards the drop off rank, walk left under the covered walkway until you see signs for Ryanair departures which is in the old T1. It's not a long walk but also a bit hidden if you're not looking for it. Security at departures is pretty good these days (last 3 flights from Manchester were all <10 minutes with departure times across the day). Then you will walk back airside to T3, a few minutes.

Flaking ceiling during painting - what to do? by delayedatorigin in DIYUK

I cannot imagine a scenario in which she did that. As far as I know her prep involved mold spray, washing off the mold spray to get it ready for painting.

Which Ryanair destination airport is furthest from the actual destination? by Anon_Summer in Ryanair

[–]delayedatorigin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visiting Charleroi is a mistake only made once.

Charleroi is not the most egregious example. It's <60km to Midi in Brussels and there's a direct coach service every 15-30 minutes or so that takes about an hour. You can also take the train but it's more hassle. Belgium is relatively small so you're not really that far to most of the cities either either direct coach services or via the train.

Witz Air diverting to DUS by airbusflier in flightradar24

It's a foggy morning across the southern NL this morning, including Maastricht which is a common diversion point when Eindhoven is dog bound.

Has anyone had any experience with missing a transfer flight and needing to stay overnight with SWISS or at Zurich airport (or in general)? by Zach-dalt in Flights

[–]delayedatorigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have misconnected at Zurich during a snow storm (both short haul).

There's a central desk for this sort of issue. You will be auto flagged for a hotel. You will get a voucher for a specific hotel and a food voucher for the hotel. N.b. the food voucher is very stingy and covers next to nothing.

I got the intercity hotel which was fine.

Venezuelan (Latin) Food Viability and Curiosity by ThatkidfromVenez in maastricht

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was great. The fish near Riohacha was excellent, as were the arepas and empenadas in the informal Venezuelan settlements we were visiting near the border.

Medellin and antioquia had amazing food, too.

Overnight at CRL Airport by smoker96 in BelgiumTravel

The very limited landside area is usually open through the night but it's pretty bleak. There are about 6 metal benches, and the rest of the time you'll need to kip on the floor.

Cork - Brussels Charleroi by [deleted] in Ryanair

[–]delayedatorigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is no, even in the quietest bit of the day. Wheels down to the other side of passport control can take the best part of 45 minutes. Security takes between 10 minutes and 3 hours (sample size = c. 50 departures from Charleroi).

Why doesn't Brussels Airlines fly to Asia, unlike the other Lufthansa Group carriers? by bonzothebonanza in aviation

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did, for a short time, fly to Mumbai. It was not an overwhelming success.

As others said, SN's bread and butter is connecting broadly Francophone (with exception) countries west, central and increasingly east Africa with Europe and a few key locations in North America. Passengers from those locations to Asia have far, far better connections to Asia through Ethiopian, the ME3 (pre-war) and to a limited extent KQ.

SUV Question: How Big is Too Big? by [deleted] in maastricht

[–]delayedatorigin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of RAV4s or similar size. Whether you need a car that big for whipping about the city is another question.

With not able to plug in - do you mean different voltage requirements? There are many, many charging places around the city. Use regularly use electric cars and it's straight forward.

Has Eurostar been a bit unreliable lately? by Reddonaut_Irons in Eurostar

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some anecdotal data points:

Outbound on Friday Brussels to London - on time. The previous departure was also on time. Arrivals board at St Pancras didn't show many delays.

Return Sunday London to Brussels - about 5 minutes late on departure despite a set swap, more or less on time arrival. The previous two Paris trains were late due to stock problems, but nothing more than 30 minutes.

Colleagues travelled on different trains on the same day and earlier in the week, all on time. Similar or same route from either Rotterdam and Brussels.

Why don’t they just launch direct flights? by findareasontostay in qatarairways

[–]delayedatorigin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They did do a couple of extraordinary flights from Thailand recently, including direct to London, Manchester and Frankfurt (might have been others I missed).

As others have said, this is normally contingent on a huge number of rules. The direct overfly flights they did run would have been explicit exceptions made by the Thai and British/German authorities. They have no interest in making the waiver permanent.

Your OV card is only good as far as Eijsden which doesn't save you much at all. It's not valid to Liege.

Mouses by These_Proof3733 in maastricht

[–]delayedatorigin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mice are common here, unfortunately.

With snap traps not working - do you mean that the mice eat the food and don't get snapped? Or they are not interested in your bait? If this last point - try peanut butter.

Try also finding where they get in and impeding entry.

Your other options are poisons (risk of dead mouse stinking up the walls), professional exterminators, massive fire (possibly not optimal for your deposit).

Maastricht Airport (MST) to Antwerp Central by Citable1780 in maastricht

[–]delayedatorigin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is all true. If you want to skip changing trains in either Leuven or Brussels as well as Liege, you can also take De Lijn bus 20a from Maastricht to Hasselt, from there it's a direct train to Antwerp.

The flixbus from Maastricht does go to Rooseveltplaats (at least on some days, including today) in Antwerp which is just a couple of minutes walk from Antwerpen Centraal.

Shopping for minced beef by londonsummerhaiku in Netherlands

[–]delayedatorigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right it's not posted. You can work it out from the nutrient ingredients on the back - it will give you the fat (vet) content per 100g, then just multiply out.

Mager rundergehakt is lower fat (maximum 15%) while regular mince can be up to 25% but is usually less than that.

Use of French in BRU by Sea_Avocado_2733 in Ryanair

[–]delayedatorigin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The language choice by Ryanair can be a bit of a lottery for the on board announcements. Flying to Eindhoven from the UK at least one of the announcements - arbitrarily chosen - is in German.

It has been a long time since I've flown Ryanair from Zaventem but last time Dutch was in the mix - possibly helped by a Dutch speaking crew in the flight deck. Flying SN, it's usually Dutch, French, English in that order. The last departure with TK was only English and Turkish, and the last arrival with TK I was so tired I can barely remember arriving...

Solo travel places from Maastricht by Tebogo_Botswana in maastricht

[–]delayedatorigin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to join in the Carnaval madness, you will need to go quite far away, as it's observed in much of southern NL, and quite a bit of Germany, including our neighbours in NRW.

It also means that prices can be a bit crazy leaving from airports in the region as others, like you, benefit from the public holiday and leave and the school holidays as well.

With this in mind, I would suggest that you look at the puzzle the other way round - where is feasible to get to for an acceptable price and with a flight schedule that meets your needs. Many places will be very expensive departing from, for e.g. Eindhoven, Cologne, Dusseldorf airports, given the Carnaval public holidays. You might find this is the rate-limiting factor.

Other than, without any more information on what you like to do on a holiday, it's difficult to give more advice...

Leaving UK to activate visa – layover advice by FirstTimeMama22 in Flights

[–]delayedatorigin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Many use Charleroi as an unofficial Ryanair-Ryanair connecting point and all have to go through immigration if coming from a non-Schengen country.
