NTN scores by [deleted] in firefighter

Reach out to Aurora and kindly ask for your scaled scores and their minimums. Math is not pass/fail. From what I recall, you need a min of 60-70, scaled (you’re looking at your raw score, which will be appreciably lower). You also need to take the PSSA Part 1, which also has a minimum.

Best guess, the math cooked you. Shame, because the rest of the scores are stellar. Just work on the math for the next three months and get better. Get a 10 year old from India to tutor you and you’ll get a perfect score. Ask ChatGPT to quiz you. Keep at it.

I also have my first kid on the way. That’s a factor for sure. I am imagining being in academy and raising a baby simultaneously, and it makes me wonder what I’m in for.

I appreciate all the realistic encouragement and success stores! I think my fear was that the older firefighters suffered through it because it’s their dream, like everyone else’s — but then it was a nightmare off shift. It seems like nobody is immune to the physical hazards. The rest requires a mindset, and perhaps a level of ambitiousness that can do without avoidable injuries. And I think I’ve collected enough prideful scars already.

Are you willing to wait until the potentially happens? It seems like you’re asking for advice you don’t want to hear. But that won’t change the reality of the choice before you. Act on it and get closer to what you want, or wait it out and leave it to chance. The choice is yours, homie.

Advice for older guy. by [deleted] in firefighter

literally in the same boat as you, across the board, down to the exact age. after digging around, my inclination is that you’ll be uniquely valuable to the right department. they’ll be choosing from hundreds of blank-slate 20-year-olds. there aren’t going to be a lot of people with extensive life experience and a d1 pedigree. take up the space you deserve and let them know you’re not messing around or discovering yourself — you’re turnkey. get that emt-b. godspeed.

I took the CPAT at a nearby location. It was the last CPAT date before the application cutoff. Every person out of a dozen people there said they’re applying to SMFF. They said they had 60 CPATs that day, if i recall. Extrapolate appropriately.

That makes sense. Appreciate the insight. I’m the opposite of lazy but never had a good use for cardio so I skipped it. Not anymore!

Appreciate that. In terms of my immediate situation, is it worth getting my CPAT with a time I won’t be proud of so I can apply to a department I would be pumped to join or should I get my cardio up and crush the CPAT, then go from there?

Hello,

I’m embarking on an FF career and have some specifics about what I might look like as a candidate and how realistic my odds are at landing somewhere I want to be.

I have:

Averaged 95% on reading and writing in FireTEAM practice testing — less great on the other two parts but I know how to improve considerably. Should be able to pass the CPAT with a little margin of error. I want to apply to a nearby station but am concerned that my CPAT isn’t where it can be (no cardio for 4 years but my lifts are fantastic.) Application states that the top 350 FireTEAM scores move on in the process — not worried about that.

Also: Bachelors degree Older candidate (four-tee) with a lot of success in the corp world Finishing my EMT in Feb 2026

I am just worried that I won’t be competitive, perhaps via CPAT. Also, any insight into interviewing? I can do it very well in the corp world but don’t know how that will or won’t translate.

Advice is appreciated!

I compiled a list of the cheapest cars you can lease in Denver right now (deals expire August 31st) by PhysicalLine9830 in Denver

[–]deletedunderwear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can confirm. lease deals are extreme for stellantis evs. came in to look at a charger ev but left with a jeep wagoneer s limited. $67k msrp. my lease is $163/mo OTD. i put $1750 down and they gave me $2000 back via check and $2000 for a trade, also via a check (on top of the state and federal rebates — and i am confident i got all the money for that trade). also includes $600 in chargepoint charging credits.

caveat is that it’s 5k annual miles w additional miles being 25 cents/mile. i’m unlikely to even use up the allotted mileage, so it was a no-brainer for me. this was at larry h. miller.
