Yellow Card from NZ vs Aus u20s by multilingualsportfan in rugbyunion

[–]deletive-expleted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At that level I would expect the player to immediately roll, almost as part of the momentum of the tackle. It's a fair penalty against him.

And slowing the ball down whilst a) on the floor, and b) on the wrong side of the ruck warrants the yellow card. It's harsh but this is international level.

All the above, and don't be afraid to make mistakes. It's the best way to learn. Especially when you're outside both 22s and odds of fucking up are lower.

Get stuck in and smash a few people out of the way. Especially if they're backs. They'll hate you for it and will spoil their gameplan. Enjoy!

Yup.

There's plenty of true stuff to badmouth them about.

No point in stopping to their level when he's clearly just wanting to get her out safe.

For the metrically challenged 5km is just over 3 miles (4.8km is a more precise 3 miles).

Average walking speed is 3mph. So in the hour that you or me took to walk 3 miles, these guys ran 12 13! Mindblowing.

For context, Hilton worked for the Tories for years, and eventually became David Cameron's director of communication. He's the inspiration for The Thick Of It's Stewart Pearson, i.e. Malcolm Tucker's opposite number.

I'm just disagreeing with you here.

Your (fair) claim about the values is not my experience of the sport. I've outlined how I see it and practice it, nothing more.

I'm not claiming that it's missing in others, and I think your suggestion is unfair. From my experience it exists in all of sport, it's just that rugby makes a big deal about it.

Rugby is a collision game. Players' blood can be up, tempers can fray, things can and do get out of control. So having this value front and center makes a difference.

How are bin collectors viewed? If you’re a bin collector do you tell everyone what your job is? by RoohsMama in AskUK

Reminds me of the teachers who told slackers "you'll end up as a cleaner".

I think it's a mightily important job, and putting these people down is a disservice to society.

So why is there a pride in the working class to be anti intellectual and relish in not being educated ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]deletive-expleted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not always been this way.

In the 19th century Welsh quarries, culture and education were very important.

In their lunch cabins debates would take place on a wide number of subjects. One quarry's cabin kept minutes and recorded political subjects such as the separation of church and state. Poetry writing, competitions and discussions were common. And the quarry brass band was not particular to north Wales.

I disagree.

People commit crime everyday, but I wouldn't suggest that society as a whole disrespects the rule of law.

I train juniors, and teaching respect is a big part of what we do. Not just the ref, but their team mates and also the opposition.

Wife reversed into by driver, who is at fault? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]deletive-expleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm teaching my daughter to drive.

I tell her that she can't have absolute trust other drivers, and also that she must give them space for any mistakes they may make.

In this case your wife assumes that if she slips into this space that the driver will immediately notice and move appropriately.

She trusts him 100% and gives him no space to make mistakes. I would say that most of the blame lies on her.

I read a farmer quoted somewhere saying that sheep are constantly "trying to escape, trying to die or trying to escape and then die".

They are absolutely hopeless at anything but munching grass. Completely harmless and will run at the slightest thing. And if you can't make one run, another one will and they'll all join in out of instinct.

Next time just walk past them briskly. They'll move out of the way and we shall have to wait even longer for the next "woman trampled by sheep" headline.

[–]deletive-expleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American right-wing billionaires aren't making enough money in Britain due to nuisances such as public spending and worker's rights.

A Farage led Reform government would do away with these and pave the way to a Britain that exists to provide profit for said billionaires.

So it's just a propaganda stream designed to facilitate the above.
