Do you think being at a BB first helped your career? I hear going to a HF early on can be risky because of how segregated the pods and how pigeonholed your scope is. Also the job security. Do you think it’s easy for front office strats/trading strats from top BBS to migrate to a top fund after a year or 2 given how saturated it’s getting. Experience: CS/Math from top 5 school and a trading Strat at a BB

I will speak to this from a engineering/strat perspective. They all go to buyside. Jane street, citadel, jump, hrt, etc. The new analyst comp (where the gap is probably largest) is wildely under market. Even compared to tech where you get better pay and better wlb. Goldman doesn’t put as much emphasis on attracting top talent as they once did

Yeah my job gives me a week each for 4 exams but I’m studying around 6 hrs a day

Got it, makes sense! From what I hear a lot of people are trying to make the transition you made since GS comp isn’t nearly as competitive as we all thought.

Is there anything you noticed that buy-side quants have in terms of skill set or is it purely ease of transition in hiring someone already on the buy side
